Am thinking Murphys Minder/Hacking Hack may be able to help with this.

I understand the british hip/elbow scoring but can anyone explain to me the german scoring.

A normal
Fast normal
F normal

They're the only one's I've seen, are there more?

Hope you can help

An A-Stamp is the grading sceme - I think that A normal is the most desirable (but I think there is a1 and a2), going up to fast normal for a moderate score in the low teens up to the 20. There are names in German for bad scores which I can neither spell nor pronounce!

AS H-H says really. Fast normal and F normal are the same I imagine, just an abbreviation. Noch zuglassen (sp) is the next grade down after fast normal which is not good, and then Ithink there is another one again but can't remember what that is. I have heard of some disparities in the past with a dog with A normal scoring quite high under the British system but think nowadays it is pretty accurate. Are you being tempted by another Shepherd Nijinsky

Thank you - I knew you guys would educate me, I read somewhere A normal was a score of up to 11 (in our scoring) but I couldn't work out the f, fast normal. Makes sense the f is fast.

Kind of MM, went to see Tina Jeremey last week, she has a litter now but I quite like another of her stud dogs who has a litter due in a couple of weeks, ready to go mid-March. Am only THINKING about it atm though but am so paranoid about hips now, I know there are no guarantees but can lightening strike twice???

Re lightning striking twice, I'll tell you when I have had Evie scored

I like Tina, she is very straight imo, I used one of her dogs many moons ago. There used to be tables produced annually showing average hip scores produced by the more popular stud dogs, it might be worth doing a bit of research to find out more about the breeding in this way. However as I know only too well nothing is guaranteed.

I will keep everything crossed for Evie's scoring. Someone told me I was just plain unlucky and that it will probably never happen again. I like the positive attitude but still - it's a minefield isn't it.

How many bitches do you have MM? As a 2 dog owner I need to be sure that 3 can live together happily. Have a dog & bitch atm as you know, Blue loves everyone & everything so I'm not worried in the slightest about him accepting another into the house, he's 3, Xara's only 16 months so I'm hoping she's young enough to accept another and a puppy I would imagine would be easier accepted than an older dog. I really want a bitch & just wonder - 2 bitches together?

Any advice?

I've got 3 bitches, they all get on okay, though the 2 older ones get a bit fed up of Evies constant high spirits

I am slightly concered that I may have problems with her and Buffy as due to Buff's back problem I can't let them play fight any more, therefore Buffy can't really put Evie in her place as she used to. I have had problems in the past with bitches, but as Xara is still only young I would think she would accept a puppy without problems, I would be more wary of introducing an older bitch, Shepherds can be very possessive over their mums

This is a table a lady put up on my gsd forum, hope it helps a bit

BVA (UK/Australia) : SV (Germany)
0-4 (no > 3/hip) : Normal
5-10 (no > 6/hip) : Normal
11-18 : Normal
19-25 : Fast Normal
26-35 : Noch Zugelassen
36-50 : Mittlere
51-106 : Schwere

ps Tina wont bred with bad hips but obviously these things crop up in even the lowest hip scoring pairings.
