Had the dog trainer over the other day and he was lovely. Really encouraging and a super guy. Everything he spoke about made a lot of sense.

Anyway, having gone through it all we decided to give it a go with Bear. All I can say is the lights are all on but there's nobody home!!! I think I have the only thick GSD in the world!

At first I put it down to maybe he didn't like the treat. But having tried a variety of treats it looks like he's just thick!

His brother (possibly also staying and posssibly going to be called Mojo!) is however very bright and can already do sit, lie down and give us his paw.

I will keep trying and will try different times of day and a little bit at a time and see if anything clicks but otherwise I think it will be a long, slow road. Don't get me wrong I know he is only 10 weeks old today, but still I thought he would be a bit quicker than this!

It just depends on the dog, I tried to train a staffXJRT for my bloke's sister for weeks, he just didn't 'get' it at all. Seemed to forget everything almost instantly.

My two are clever enough but they don't want to play ball or chase anything (except cats) and the trainer looks at me with this really pitying face, but I don't really mind, gives my arms a rest!

However it's really early days for Bear, give him time, he's still only a baby.

border collie, strong willed and pig headed! he can do down, but if you ask totally ignores me!
my sister asks him anything and its done, me NOPE don't care about mummy!!!
I think all "intelligent" breeds have either a) exceptions or b) they are too intelligent for their own good!!!! (possibly mines case!)

So don't feel alone!

Could be that you haven't found what makes him tick yet?

Perhaps a tuggy game or a ball game would be a better reward for Bear?

Some dogs just aint that inspired by treats.

My mutt can work really well for treats, then some days she just couldnt give a fig, then sometimes games or toys will work and some other days nothing will work. Now that is frustrating!

I have a long haired white GSD. As adorable and cuddly as he is he is definately a couple of sandwichs short!
He listens to every word you say, wags his tails and frolicks about like a puppy.
He's getting on a bit now but still just as daft.
Just happy to be a big cuddly pet, he'd never win any prizes for obedience.
