GSD Mafia

I know, I watched it earlier live! He is a gorgeous dog, and they were actually nice about him, Jessica talks a lot of sense. Would have been very tempted as a future hubby for Evie but to closely related, his dad is her grandad!
 
Aw go on KH, you know you want to, and GSDs mix really well with spangles. Elmo has had several BIS all breeds wins this year, am keeping my fingers crossed for the big one. He is very like his sire, who was best of breed at Crufts 2 years ago.
 
Must admit I have missed it due to food poisoning (being a student and all :P) but I expected nothing less!! :D
Lovely to see a beautiful dog without any hints of the half dog/half frog of Crufts from before...

Well I do have to say Lagos who got such a hammering last year, and Zamp, the world Sieger, the year before, had exactly the same qualifications/excellent ratings as Elmo, ho hum!

Hope he becomes the fourth (and healthiest :p) GSD to take the Supreme Champion title (not that I care about silly showing **cough cough** :p)
 
Haha CC - I haven't seen Shepherd put together like that for a long time it seems very differently styled to the winners of the past, maybe times are changing?

Well I would see Elmo, Lagos and Zamp as being quite uniform in type and I do see nicely put together sheps every weekend :D

But I see what you mean, in the past Crufts would have been the reserve of the more English Alsatian type.

Very much so - I used to see plenty of shepherds of this style at the breed shows the training club used to do, but it seemed that the higher level shows, the more english types were shunned - maybe things are changing now!

Ooh I don't know about showlines but I know that if I think back to the shows we used to run they all seemed quite sloped and quite short in the back steep in the croup and any which looked like the pastoral winner, a bit longer and less steep were very rarely placed and it seems now over the past few years that the 'english type' dogs are becoming more popular and getting more results - I was always told (now I don't know if this is true :p) that the shorter, steeper dogs tended to be German lines and vice versa but obviously there is the exceptions :)

For a while there were a lot of inferior German dogs coming over here and being used at stud, and also some dodgy handling which did produce the type you describe, and there were quite a few about in the 80s certainly. However the correct German type has been of a similar stamp to Elmo for many years. This video illustrates it well I think

Gosh it does show the changes over the years doesn't it! I do like the dogs of around 1980 our first Shepherd looked very much like that. The shepherd we have now is more like the 2000 example.
I just seem to remember that the shows we used to do favoured a certain style of dogs and now it seems to be changing! :)

If all dogs were dark grey or black, and looked like Uran, I would be happy :p

They're meant to be short coupled and compact, longer dogs find it hard to get over obstacles.

My fella is named after Bodo v Lierberg, 1967. And has far too many of those later dogs in his pedigree :p

And another interesting/boring fact, the only dog ever recorded as being exactly 50:50 in proportion, is Dick Adeloga, 1973/4
 
I don't have a dog and have never posted in AAD before however.....

........on Friday I got drunk and slept on my friend's floor with a very large German Shepherd. He was heavy, smelly and scratched a lot at 3am ish.

I feel like I cheated on OH but there were so many similarities (eg smelly, scratched crutch a lot, panted in sleep, barked at cats). I was drunk and confused......

Dear AAD, have I cheated? :D:D:D

Having looked at the video, I think he's a heavy 2001 type but I don't remember too much :D

I'll check again this week as I'm round there fighting off his drooling face from my ham sarnie.......
