What are her hips and elbow scores? Has she got a show grading or any working qualifications? Any stud owner worth their salt will not let their dog cover your female without these.
I have a gorgeous dark boy with incredible breeding, five gens of titled and health tested relations, many of them who have competed at world level. Doesn't mean I am going to stud him though (plus he is only ten months old, yesterday )
I also have a gorgeous grey boy with incredible showline breeding, chock full of Siegers. He is a walking vet's bill.
There are a lot of quality GSD litters on the ground now, and breeders are struggling to find the right homes - please think very carefully.
I love GSDs, yes, but I love them too much to breed from them, just for the sake of it - also, advertising for a stud on an open forum is definitely not the right way to go about it.
Tell us more about your girl and if she has the requirements, if she doesn't, please look into getting them, if she is breeding material, I will certainly help suggest a stud.
I am sure she is a lovely girl with a great character, conformation, breeding etc but there are a lot of bitches out there like that.
Yes I love them, and after a lot of consideration I am planning a litter from my bitch in the spring. She is very well bred, has a hip score of 7, elbow score of 0, has an excellent temperament and is very well bred. However, I have only finally decided to mate her because I have people interested in her pups, if these enquiries hadn't been forthcoming I wouldn't have considered the litter. As CC says most stud dog owners won't accept a bitch to their dogs unless they have all health tests, and tbh if they are willing to I would worry that their motives were more about profit than the good of the breed, so if she hasn't been done I would suggest that is your first action.
If you let us know her lines, health scores etc I am sure we can point you in the direction of a suitable dog.
I agree there are many things to be taken into consideration before breeding from a bitch.
I have a wonderful GSD bitch, her parents were both VA, excellent hips and both ScH 3 which I wanted to do with my bitch but the classes were just to far away from me.
So, having bought this bitch worked her to herding the sheep and being a wonderful temperament, I seriously thought about breeding her so I had her X-rayed when she was 2 years and found that one hip is not so good (8) although well within the range that and the fact she has long pasterns made me decide to have her spayed.
Foxhunter, eight is not the worst in the world but well done for doing things right However I think ours may be related, have you seen my boy's pasterns?!!!!!
