Well I didn't chicken out and dragged myself and J of to GtW to do the intro combined training. Had a bit of an interesting journey with friend who offered to take me (very very grateful!) but they decided they knew the way, when they didn't, and wouldn't listen to me, but never mind, got there in time so all good.

Warmed up for the dressage and J thought he was going XC again, and was very forward and bouncy, but calmed down nicely after a bit. Wondered over to see what was going on and on the way had a massive fly buck/bronc moment at a very scary flapping piece of plastic. After that he really wouldn't concentrate, tried to get his attention back but don't think I did a great job. Anyway went in and idiot me did my first canter circle in the wrong place

, then he was fine for a bit, but was struggling as it was on a hill and trotting downhill is hard work apparently

Had a moment in the second canter, then lost him for a bit, but he came back nicely. Some of his trot work was quite stuffy as he went dead to my leg halfway though for some reason. Anyway, came away with the disgraceful score of 48%

On to the jumping. He was very very hyper in the warm up, jumping on grass is very exciting. But after a lot of work he did calm down. Went in and he was fantastic, everyone was finding the course very spooky and he did look at a couple but responded when I growled at him to jump a lovely round. Unfortuntly got a bit flat over the double and took a rail of the second part, but otherwise he was fab!

So in parts it was awful, but in other places it was brilliant! Funny day over all, annoying that the dressage was on a slope, but never mind.

Now i just have to plan when to start some serious stuff, was aiming for Gt W intro in july but seems like such a long time away.... any suggestions?

Sorry, very long report, no pictures I'm afraid as was on my own.

Thanks for reading

I wouldn't worry too much about the dressage score - its sounds like you did a good job in the circumstances especially if the arena wasn't even flat. You would of lost a couple of marks for your error of course which you can just put down to a mistake rather than anything you were doing wrong. And the SJ sounds great - Jenny thinks jumping on grass is v exciting too!

Well done you for getting your arse out and doing it at all

It doesn't surprise me in the least that he was all over the place, I would have expected it as he is not used to grass but I bet you the next time you go, it'll be loads better

He just needs to keep going and keep doing and you'll see, he WILL calm down in the end.

I have a baby horse that I am aiming for intros in May/June I also have a transport problem and I want him to be doing local stuff with confidence before affiliating him. I am going to start him on a day ticket rather than registering straight away.

Sounds like you had a fun day!
