We've recently acquired a new horse and would like guesses on adult height!
He's about 13 hands at the whither and nearly 14 at the bum.
Dad is a 15.3 welsh D and mum is a 15 hand 3/4 thoroughbred. Oh and he's apparently 18 months but could be younger. We think he's all legs :p

Also i've heard there are some test or measurements you can take to guess adult height, does anyone know what these are ??

Aww what a cutie. He's gorgeous!
One I have been told about is to measure the foreleg from elbow to fetlock, and add this to the full length of the foreleg from floor to elbow. When we tried this on my youngster we measured from elbow to fetlock, held the tape to his elbow and span the fetlock end round so it was over his withers, to give a rough idea of his mature height. We also got told to measure from fetlock to knee, and the length in inches would be roughly the mature height in hands (eg 15.5 inches = 15.2hh). There might be an optimum age to do these, I'm not sure, but they might give an idea as to how tall your baby will be.
Parents height is a good indicator, but my boys sire was 15hh and his dam was 15.3hh, and he is rising 3 standing 16hh already!

Id always go for somewhere in the middle - but my boys sire is 15 hh n is mum was 13.2 and hes about 14.2ish now and I don't think much more height to go. Iv heard about the knee to coronet band measurement too... no idea how much truth there is in it. Ahh he's so lovely, I bet he's gonna be a stunner when he's bigger!!

This is the measurement I have used on close to 200 foals (been breeding a looooong time) with pretty reliable results at mature height, within an inch of correct at worst: piece of string or tape measure - measure from point of elbow to floor, keeping the end that is on the elbow in place, twirl string up over withers and this is where his withers should grow to.

16 hh might be a bit ambitious! :p

if he's 18 months then he is older and a hand smaller than my filly. she's out of a 14.3 (cheats to be 15 hh due to high bony wither) mare, and 16 hh stallion.

i have tried many measurements... but get different results every time! :p I hope she reaches 15hh min 15.2hh max... but will have to wait and see!

my guess would be that your will be within this range also.

good luck with him. ;)

interesting but thankyou we shall wait and see! :p

Bless he's gorgeous but doesn't look 13 hands! I thought he was only 12 hands from the pictures! When I bought my ID cross many years ago at 18 months he was 14 hands at the wither and 14.2 behind. He finished at 16hh.

I have to say he looks no where near 13hh in the pic, looks about 12hh to me as well. I would say 14.1 max

My mare has been measured with a stick at 13.3. His hindquarters are that height and his withers are not much smaller. definitely not 12 hands.
Our fields are sloped and he is lightweight build so i can see why he looks smaller! We have an 11.2 pony at our yard and Harry is much bigger than him :p

Cortez iv tried that method on my filly for the last 18 months...shes standing at 15.1 at 3 yrs 6 months i did this test when she was 2 years old and it came out shell make 16.3hh or above ..i did it a few weeks ago and by this method she should make 16.2hh, which is approximated height made by breeder on passport, shes tbx/wbx but shes not grown much in year and when she does its very slow, nt really bum high...is it poss for her to grow from 15.1 to 16.2 when shes already nearly 3 and half ? i hope so as currently shes too small for me !!
