Guess the breed please!

For a friend, we are pretty sure of what we think he is, and it doesn't match his passport! Wondering what you guys think?
Here he is, rising 4, 12 hands ish

and as a somewhat hairer, scruffier, younger chap!

I would have definately said not Welsh A or Dartmoor, but as I said, I'm REALLY bad at this!

I have no idea, but he looks very similar to a pony we had as kids, we always called him a Heinz 57.

He's the spitting image of a registered Dartmoor I had so I would guess that.

Apart from the wavy tail he looks very similar to a pony we owned who was sired by a Welsh section D and mum (apparently) was nearly as small as a shetland! Ours was 12.1hh.

dartmoor x exmoor. looks very much like my dartmoor pony I used to have (in the fluffy pic) but head looks more like my old exmoor's in the summer pics, whatever his breeding, he is a very sweet chap.

Yes, I would have said something like a Dartmoor or New Forest crossed with something heavier (Highland perhaps?)

He's too chunky for a purebred.

Then again he has a cobby bum, but 12 hands isn't very big if he has cob in him, plus his legs don't look chunky enough

I thought welsh as well, just because of the tail. But he's not big enough to be a D, so prob a B.

I would have def said dartmoor cross with something. I prob would have put my money on exmoor tho. Does it have the dartmoor sides breeding (just out of interest). Its not uncommon for the ponies that run the moors to be an interesting mix, ie a group of mares they've picked up over the yrs running with a dartmoor stallion or a group of dartmoor mares running with a coloured stallion.
