We were originally told German Shepherd cross for little foster pup, but I can't see it in him. I have my suspicions that he is something similar, based on the temperament and intelligence, but I'll suggest that after you all have a look and see what you think he is (apart from very cute!)

He has spent the past week in and out of the vets with a tummy bug so he's looking very skinny at the moment :(

Such a good boy - meet Dexter!

He looks like a working line GSD. The eyes would be the only thing making me think it was a cross.

(Before anyone starts, spent the weekend training with three grey WL GSDs with white flashes on their chests :p)

You think he could still be a German Shepherd with the very short hair? Any GSD pups I've met have been much fluffier, but I'm also thinking his coat could be affected by the calcium deficiency? Poor baby has gone a few steps back, we were weaning him off the calcium supplement when he stopped eating, so a few days off the calcium supplement and the food means he can't support himself on his back legs when he's begging to get up on the sofa  He is a bit crazy so might fit in with the working line GSD!

Might as well say what I think when you're here CC, I was thinking Belgian Malinois but what are the odds of a pup of this breed being let get into such a bad state and dumped at 12 weeks, there aren't that many about (he was found in Louth).

Working line GSDs can have tighter coats generally.

Google 'Malinois puppies', there is no comparison.

There are Mally breeders in that general area but like I say, wrong colour, wrong shape.

There are WL GSDs that have been oversold and gone into less than desirable homes and are being bred from so it's not unlikely that's what he is.

I see a lot of similarity between him and the malinois pups on google images, except he is darker in colour all over, he has a very distinct black mask which doesn't seem to show up well in pictures. I will try to sneak up on him when he's sleeping in decent light later! If he's not staying with us we will hopefully get him a working obedience home as it's already clear that he will need a job. He's totally housetrained, clean all night, loves his crate, already doing nose and foot touches, and sitting when asked, in less than two weeks (one of which was spent mostly in the vets).

The head is wrong for a malinois, and also too much hind angulation imho. I would think quite possibly working line GSD, with maybe something else in there, the ears don't look to be set quite right for pure GSD.
It seems sable GSD or GSD types are often identified as malinois, there was one listed on doglost as found last week, didn't look anything like a mal to me, and I noticed that it has now been corrected to GSD cross after a few people had pointed out the mistake.
