Caveat: the photos had better work!

So. I was thinking gundog as you all know. Still am but for next year now. As yesterday this happened

Meet Rocky George Stanley Frederick Rodney.

I know I know but we couldn't decide what to call him so he got called everything!

Let me know if you can't see the pictures. I'm a novice at this and struggling!

He's gonna be hard work but is reasonably settled except at moments last night when he woke to find himself somewhere new and no Mum! Bless him

He did ask to go in the garden to poo so that's v good. He'll play be himself and wear himself out too.

Now just gotta crate train him (he's not keen but did happily eat his breakfast in there this morning)

any tips on successful crate training tip away HHO'ers. Thanks

My latest rescue came crate trained, I had never used one- but I have to say it is handy, especially if they go through a chew-everything stage and you need to go out for an hour or two
Mine got a treat when he went in and got fed in there. Also I put a dark coloured sheet over it when leaving so he coudn't see the big wide world and I am pretty sure he just slept. Never left him more than 3 hours or so in daytime. He still sleeps in it sometimes, by choice- its still there and open and even though he is now 9 months and grown up enough to not need it he seems to like it.. He puts all his toys in it

Thanks. I’m feeding him in it already so that’s good. He’s going through the ‘ill chew anything’ phase although is pretty hood when stopped snd given a suitable toy instead!
Yes a cover over the top is a good idea.

He’s so cute! The photo on his back ❤️ I’d call him George.

Crate training rules are to generally make it a nice place to be (as you are doing) - feed him in it, give him chew toys/treats etc when he’s in, likimats/stuffed kongs are good for keeping him distracted for a short while in the crate but I wouldn’t leave him alone with them. I don’t shut the door on a crate until puppy is well settled and almost asleep and my dogs have gone on to use crates as dens/beds with the door open for years afterwards.
All that said, I haven’t used a crate for my last two pups because there wasn’t a need but they are definitely handy things to have.

Thanks. I really need him to get used to it for the car. I don’t like dogs lose in the back.

It’s actually illegal to have dogs unrestrained in the car. I had a brilliant Transk9 for my pick up truck and now have a dog guard in my Volvo. I never had to crate train them for that though, as they’ve all enjoyed travelling.
