The b****y Red Arrows!!

They came right over our heads, scared the bejeeezus out of Star and I. She was good though, a bit of skitting about, nothing serious.

So next time Hubby tells me that the Red Arrows are coming over at 12 I will try and remember.

I've still got palpitations now.

I love air displays almost as much as horses, but am always worried sick about any livestock in the area. I had similar a few years back when out riding. I heard a brief "woosh" and there they were, at what seemed like head height but was obviously a good deal higher. Horse barely moved, but I nearly fell off trying to look at them! I think the Reds are displaying at Weymouth today, and you might see a Spitfire as well (a bit more horse friendly!)

I totally know how you feel!!!!

The French airforce are ALWAYS flying over where I live. It's horrible, thank god they go so quick that my horse doesn't spook too much. The noise they make is horrendous!!! I think they should tell everyone when they will be out. They even scare me!

Scary. Least you managed to stay on board. A couple of months ago a friend and I came across an Apache helicopter on our regular bridlepath. It was apparently practising take-off/landing and low level flying. We had to get off before we were bolted with which was bad for all reasons not least because the ground was hard as hell and rutted. We then had to walk back as the horses were so agitated we couldn't get back on. Then to cap it all, having seen us helicopter then flew over our heads so low I felt I could have touched the bottom of it!!

After an email to the MOD we were told these manoevres have to be practised - fair enough - but on a marked bridleway???

Yep I've had them go over me pretty low and my TB mare just grew a little but then she spotted the log on the bridle path, crapped herself and shot through the stock fencing at the side of the ride. We ended up 10 foot from a working Combine which she didn't even bat an eyelid at... Dopey chestnut girl!

I had to regularly ride my horse under the approach to an RAF airstrip. The jets came so close overhead, my horses reaction was really comical, he used to stop and look up at them as they thundered overhead so low you could almost touch them and watched them all the way down the runway. I never had to take up a contact, or felt frightened.
He was as chilled as anything about it!!
RAF Coltishall, Norfolk.
They were Jags and Harriers- i think!!

Your lucky you only get the Red Arrows.

I live in Warminster and my horses are on a farm on the edge of the training area. I get tanks, hercules aircraft, fighter jets and every other type of military vehicle/aircraft on a regular basis.

They come so bl..dy close sometimes I can see what they've had for lunch.

To cap it all come pheasant murdering season I have the beaters merrily shaking plastic bags creeping behind the hedges around my horses fields!

Fortunately having been there for a couple of years now my horses dont bother too much but I do worry about my youngster who is quite valuable.

When I shout at the beaters as my horses are careering round the paddock they dont take a blind bit of notice.

The more exposure your horses get to these "distractions" the easier it becomes for them.

I cant say the same for me though, I still worry all the time!!

I think in some cases it all happens so fast they haven't got time to react. I occasionally get Hurcules transport, and fighter planes over and the horses rarely take much notice. So far, we've been very lucky.

Lol yep traffic is hideous! Never mind only once a year!

The arrows just came up so fast and low, I think they were on their grand entrance as it was bang on 12! I was as shocked as Starry!

We have air sea and police helicopters coming low overhead regularly and she ignores those, she was amazing today as well. Just can't believe I was dim enough to forget!

Being an American in England, I always wanted to see the Red Arrows but am terrified of airshows! However, they flew over our yard three times last week. Now I have been in horses over 50 years and should have run to check the horses, but you know I was so "gob-smacked" (newly learned phrase) that I just stood there and cheered. Made me want to sing God Save the Queen lol!
They really are a sight, and here I am with a son who is a jet pilot in the US Navy! Luckily I was not on my TB at the time or surely I would have been promptly dumped on my head or worse (my head is quite hard!)

Farnborough airshow was a few weeks ago and I hack over the land that overlooks the airfield.....

We had the red arrows, the battle of britain flypast, four light blue planes all together..... and the usual triangular beasts that go faster than the speed of sound...... Just like Merly does whe he sees them
