Our girl has Cushings and at Christmas, she kept coming down with laminitis, she couldn't even walk out of her stable unaided and regularly lost her footing - our vet told us she was unlikely to pull through it and advised PTS.
However, she was still eating as always, still shouting to us when we went on the yard and we kept seeing little hints of her spirit and just had to give her that chance.
She's been going out for the last 5 months in the field now, is starting to be really naughty again and looks FABULOUS and here she is today, on her first LONG walk (we were out an hour!) around all the fields :D she couldn't believe her eyes with all the green!

We are SO proud of her - such a fighter!
Just shows what a bit of hard work and commitment can do!!

ETA Piebaldsparkle - she has been ill through winter the last two years sadly and was in much worse condition than she is now - unfortunately with all the ice etc it didn't help, but we are hoping that being on the medication and her being in such good condition now, it won't set her back too much :)

What a lovely story and so pleased to hear it - esp as I have an off/on lami possibly cushings pony I am trying to keep happy.

And with vets, no of course they aren't always right, they just have an educated opinion, but you know your pony better than anyone, so you should alway mix their advice with your knowledge of your animal .... there is an old 'vets' saying -

"put 11 vets in a room and you will get 12 opinions!!"

Anyway, well done you and lucky pony.

what brilliant news!! I am so pleased for you and she looks great!
Im so glad you didnt PTS and have her a chance - So many other would have just PTS. She is a credit to you! xx

Thank you :) :) :)
Of course, winter's always going to be a worry for anyone with an ill or old pony and even more so for me, I'll be back at uni but with regular updates from her mum but at the moment, Kel is just having so much fun you can see it in her. She can't wait to get out and the minute we walk onto the yard she starts throwing her head about and shouting to us!

That vet saying is very true - I know vets have to give the worst case scenario to cover their own backs of a sort, and it really did hit us hard hearing it, but I'm glad she is such a battleaxe - determined to prove everyone wrong all the time!!
