the vet is booked for thursday.

My 7 yr old mare has a lump/raised area on her belly, just behind and below where my heel would touch if i rode her. it is about the size of my hand and about 5mm high. she had the same lump in the summer but it went away. Doesnt seem to bother her and the hair isn't affected.
Any ideas?

Hasn't been ridden recently.

cant remember the name of it and it sounds in the wrong place to be fair but there is a fly that can burrow and lay eggs, but it usually REALLY upsets them and is nearer her udders.

A wasp bite....or another critter....

I can't post a pic unfortunately as it's not on my iPad but we had two horses at different times this year develop a raised area about the size of my hand, both on hip areas weren't hard to the touch and didn't feel any different temperature, just raised by about 3-5mm. Vet happened to be out for vacs when first one happened and she said suspected it was most likely an insect bite, bathed it with a cold water/hibiscrub on a flannel (kept it held over area) and gone by morning and didn't return. Interesting you say she's had it before, can you be sure it's exactly the same area?
