I’m lucky in that I work from home, have horses at home so… spend 2 hours a day driving my son to/from school
(he’s autistic so we had to go for the best fit, not the closest).
OP specifically only wanted to talk about acreage but since they appear to have gone,
If I was a non-riding mother of an only child, with no succession of younger riders to take over, there's no way I'd be buying her a pony at 14.
By 16 she'll be buried in exams when she's not with her boyfriend.
At 18 her parting shot of "...and don't you dare sell Binky" will be shouted over her shoulder as she disappears for Uni,
..leaving mum alone in a compromise dwelling bought for the land, waiting hand and foot upon a bored, fat Binky for the next 20 years.
(I may have a slightly jaundiced view)
I’m not surprised OP has gone! Some of the behaviour comments that appear on threads posted and asking a specific question grow arms and legs very quickly. I imagine it’s almost like being on a bad livery yard, fortunately l’ve only once had horses at livery when moving house so for a short time period.OP specifically only wanted to talk about acreage but since they appear to have gone,

I think the responses on this thread are fine.I’m not surprised OP has gone! I agree that the acreage would be far too small BUT that was the question, which was answered.I think the responses on this thread are fine.
The acreage in the OP isn't sufficient and it sounds like first time horse owners who would be better with some form of livery.
When we moved here, I was nearer to work than at my previous house and I no longer had to travel in the opposite direction to get to the livery yard twice per day, so I actually saved money on transport.I would also add in the probably extra costs of being totally dependent on a car to get to work, ferry daughter to school, to see friends and any other activities she takes part in. Work colleague said that she would never have made the move to their own place if she had realised how much extra time and money this cost her.
