My sister has just been transferring the guinea pigs from run to hutch and she dropped one onto the patio, she is moving but bleeding from her mouth, and won't eat or drink called the vet who thinks she is in shock ( funnily enough as one would expect if that was the size of you and you were dropped on to concrete on your head

) but gave us the advice she would give us if we had dropped a cat (?) Anyone have any experience of guinea pigs in shock?

not really had experience with dropping one sorry! But for nervous shocky animals I would leave her alone in a dark quiet place by herself with some food and water though. hope she gets better

If she is in proper medical shock (which is caused by fluid loss) then she will need emergency treatment, primarily fluids. Is the bleeding from her mouth coming from a visible injury or does it seem internal? If a visible injury I would put her in a warm darkened place with some water and see if she perks up. If you suspect an internal injury I think she will need to see a vet to find out the extent of her injuries. Hope she's ok

I'd be ringing a different vet. My cat once fell out of my bedroom window onto concrete and was fine, cats are designed for acrobatics, guinea pigs aren't. Personally I would put them in a fluffy towel to keep warm and dark and monitor closely. Possibly try tempting to eat with something juicy like melon or grapes. If the mouth is sore they won't want to be drinking from a water bottle. I would really be ringing another vet though.

MQ says please check the guinea pig's teeth as if they are broken they will bleed and it won't be able to eat or drink properly. If this has happened they will grow back eventually but in the meantime soak the food.

Used to show guinea pigs. I would put pig in a box, nice and dark with hot water bottle to keep warm. Blackberry leaves to eat if you can get any, and dish of water. Bleeding probably from something to do with teeth. I had a rabbit once that fell out its hutch and knocked its bottom teeth out! There was lots of blood everywhere.

What sort of height was she dropped from? I would do as others said, put her somewhere quiet but do try have a look in her mouth first. She could have broken her jaw or bitten her tongue (tongues bleed a lot!). I would be slightly concerned about internal bleeding though in case she broke some ribs that have then caused damage inside. I would have thought she'd have squeaked alot though when picked up if that was the case.

Keep checks on her but with any luck it will just be shock.

i would straight to vets even if your vets so dont! it is best to be safe than sorry it could be interninal bleeding for all you know. and if it is one of his teeth you will need to have it removed. until you get there put in a dark box covered well and keep warm!
