Gullet - is this normal for a Pessoa saddle?

I have just bought a Pessoa close contact jump saddle which has had hardly any use. However, I have noticed the gullet is only 3 fingers wide where as my other saddles are 4 fingers wide. Is this normal for Pessoa saddles? I did have a Pessoa Blythe Tait for many years which I loved, but sold. Now I can't for the life of me remember how wide the gullet was, although it looks pretty much the same from memory. Thanks.

Could it be because the waist is smaller? I have a pessoa jump - but not the close contact. The gullet is narrower than the same horse's albion K2 dressage and I understood that was because of the narrow waist.

I think it's normal for most close contact saddles to be narrower and they sit lower.

Thanks. My mare seems comfortable in it but is quite a tricky ride so I am trying to rule out any possible reasons for discomfort. Already her micklem bridle has caused her to bleed. A hard sharp peice of stitching wounded her. Can't believe I didn't notice it. Annoying that a supposedly good brand should have such shoddy workmanship :(

That is frustrating! I tried a micklem but didn't find it effective so didn't bother getting one. But lots of people have complained on this forum about the workmanship on something so expensive. I do like the PS Sweden jump though. Just need an excuse......

I had a brand new ideal close contact showing saddle for my young horse years ago had it fitted and it really made his back sore, due to the shape of his back he does not suit close contact, so be careful they don't suit every horse.

My fitter doesnt like them. She said they are suitable for lightweight riders for short periods of time only due to the way they are designed and fit.
