Think that title might sound more exciting than it should!!
We went to a mini ODE for young horses and novices and the course was around 2ft, so great for his first time.
All went well!! Bear in mind that it was his first time in a dressage arena, round a course of show jumps and even seeing an XC fence!
he scored 59% in the dressage despite the fact that for some reason he completely c*****d up the canter work, randomly changing legs every few strides (bodes well for PSG in the future dontcha think?!!)
in the show jumping he ran through the first cross pole, then pulled himself together and jumped a double of planks, a wall, and a scary monster filler fence (amongst others), to knock only one more down. I was amazed that he was soo balanced as the arena was pretty small for a big horsy
In XC, I was a bit aprehensive as to whether he would even go near the fences, given he wouldn't go near the log in the practice ring! Fences included an abc drop combination, a few skinnys, a trakehner, a ditch to a skinny, a palisade into a wood, stand alone wooden mushrooms out of the wood(!) and scary, scary logs! Anyway, long story short, he completey genuine - we had 7 stops in total, each time he just asked for a look and sniff (so cute!), then hopped over when re-presented - I couldn't really ask for more, despite a cricket score of 120 penalties!
Oh yeah, and I had to do it all in my dressage saddle too....my GP hasn't re-appeared yet - wasn't too bad actually!!
I'm soo chuffed with him - he seemed to really enjoy himself and I'm excited to being doing this all again after so long away from competing - think the last time I hunter trialled was 1995!
You defo need doughnuts if you got this far...think I might have got a bit verbose after my celebratory pint
