Gum Proliferation aka Gingival Hyperplasia

In response to the posts above, agree its not just elderly ponies that get cushings, my Welsh D had it and was on prascend for several years

If you look up care about cushings, they do a yearly voucher to cover some of the costs of the tests (cant remember what it is you still pay for i think just the vet call out and lab fees?) Its been a few years now so I cant remember - they email you a voucher

Gosh, why wouldn't you test then. Just to rule it out and be definitive about it. With a voucher is just added incentive. Or maybe I just love a "bargain" 🤣

https://talkaboutlaminitis.ie/ for anyone in Ireland, though I haven't used it as it's for a different lab.

There is a free lab test voucher for cushings. You can have a free test once a year. The vet fee still needs paying, but that can be combined with another visit, such as vaccination.

I was just going to post this.
The voucher covers lab fees so just pay for blood sampling and possibly call out.

Cushings signs can also be mild infections/ slow healing / just not thriving.

It's super simple and worth ruling in/out.
Our vets recommend it alot for all sorts of cases and varying ages.
Sometimes they might not recommend treatment depending on the levels but something to keep in kind if things change

Salt and warm water will work too. Be prepared for the area to smell really bad for a few days, then healing starts, and everything should sort itself out within a couple of weeks. I had a similar thing when Old Dobbin had a split tush removed. Lari is lucky to have you.
Thank you.

Some of the on going monitoring tests are free, too. I get my two PPID ladies blood tested twice a year and some of the lab tests are free with a code. I think maybe it’s one free test per year per PPID horse.

One test I do with annual jabs so the extra vet cost is trivial, a few £££s for the blood pull. The other I will fit in with something else if I can, or I just stump up for the extra call out.
