My little rescue spaniel is in the vets having most of her teeth removed. I could cry she is only 7. Need reassurance that she will be able to cope sans teeth!
I feel awful doing it but its for her wellbeing. I hope she wont regress into the scared little girl of two weeks ago, she has been coming on a treat.
Will she be able to eat anything other than soft sloppy food ?

Can’t speak for dogs, but one of our old cats had to have most of his teeth removed. Once his mouth had healed up, he still ate the same things he’d eaten before just fine.

Oh gosh yes she will be absolutely fine - one of my greyhounds had no teeth at all for several years, currently Hoover only has his 2 lower canine teeth left and absolutely all the others removed. Neither of them have bothered at all about it :)

Must admit that all my dogs have always ignored the vets instructions after a dental - never mind soft food for them, they want their tea and they want it now thanks :D Hoover had a few problems being a bit dribbly on the day he had approx 20 teeth out in one go, but that literally was just for a day

Just collected her. shes had 12 out ! and also was missing 12. Vet said she was very lucky no abcesses. May lose another couple as deep pockets in gum. Poor little lass, it makes me so angry that it was allowed to get to that state. She must have been in a lot of discomfort but never showed it.

Ah, bless her, she’s going to be feeling a bit sore! Personally, I’de rather have no tooth than a rotten one. I’m sure she’ll overcome this obstacle!

she seems like a different dog, she is much more relaxed indoors, whereas she spent a lot of time pacing about previously, and just seems more lively and happier! I feel better about her having her teeth out now as she is obviously benefitting. A lovely little character altogether, it was worth the huge vets bill !
