I know perfectly well that I am preaching to the converted on here, but I have just looked at the 'dogs for sale' adverts on Gumtree..... Oh My God there is no hope, WTF is WRONG with some idiots out there???!!!!???

Sorry. I had to rant :(

I look at preloved every now and then...does nothing for my blood pressure. Dogs are disposable nowadays.

I spend most of my day at work headdesking about people like this, not good for the blood pressure. And when I say headdesking it's sometimes a fine line between that and curling into a ball and weeping about some of the bloody awful stuff people do to dogs. :(

"I'm pregnant - no room"what is she trying to do, put the puppy in her belly too? If you think a chihuahua is too much space whilst pregnant heaven forbid the rest of the population! I dont get it, seems a weak excuse to me....

Drives you mad....!!!

It looks like puppy syndrome. It was such a cute ickle wickle puppy, but now it takes up an awful lot of space, does huge s****, barks loudly, climbs all over the furniture and growls when you go near its food. So now we have no time to give it the exercise it needs, so now we want to get someone to buy the problem so we can go out and get another ickle wickle puppy ready for Christmas. Argh.
I do not buy dogs and only the insane would breed them, I could not live with this on my conscience.

One thing they all have in common is illiterate owners, the jug puppy is 8weeks old, so how long have they had it, did they breed it.

Another thing they all have in common is they will never qualify for a rescue dog, not a responsible rescue anyway as they are obviously idiots and would set alarm bells off.

I managed to keep both of mine despite being made homeless in January with snow on the ground, while I had a fractured spine and could barely walk. It was hard! But it was doable and worth it :) One went to a friend and I managed to get another into a foster place while I crashed at a friends and got us all a new house. I turned down temporary accommodation that would have seen me living there for months, that didn't allow dogs. I found somewhere about 4 weeks in that allowed dogs and scraped the money together for a deposit. We are all still together a couple of years later, and we now own a house and are very settled :)

Sometimes life goes horribly wrong and all you can do is hang in there and work very hard to get it back right. I would never give up my dogs! But thats where the difference lies. I was prepared to suffer myself in order to get us all back together. a lot of people arent sadly :(

I wouldn't qualify for a rescue dog, we both work, although we work shifts so the dogs aren't left that long. But it means most rescues would say no. I'm pretty sure if you asked my dogs, both rescues, just not through official channels, they would both tell you how good life is now :) So not sure thats a good way to assess things :)

I got my boy off preloved, aged 2, as owners did not want him any more. no clear reason given. i recon he had just become too much as a GSD boy with lots of energy and no training! he is currently asleep by my feet after a few hours at the horses. i went to view him and took him home within the hour- i offered home checks, ID, ect, but they did not care, but were happy to take £200! (I know i should not encourage selling by paying but I had to have him). he was not badly neglected, but was under stimulated and underweight (apparently slim due to his mum being a white Alsatian?!!) It was actually due to gluten intolerance and very cheap high wheat food. he now eats raw, and lots of it, and is well muscled and a great size.
i cant help but look on the sites occasionally and want to have them all (but I have very little space and due to lack of socializing before we got him, my boys only gets on with some dogs )

agree that charity assessments are sometimes too restricted. we would not have qualified due to working hours and a small flat with shared garden. but he is out at least 3 hours a day at the horses and goes running and just sleeps in the flat so hardly needs a mansion! I know they have to be careful, but they do rule out some good potential homes.

That dogue de bordeaux puppy is in serious danger of being in my living room tomorrow!

People are truly awful, these animals are just disposable accessories to them :( the pregnancy excuse always gets my back up. I can understand sometimes you lose your job, lose your home, don't have friends who could take them, etc and then you would try your best to responsibly rehome or put into a rescue....but having a baby is not an excuse to get rid of a dog. Especially something as dinky as a chihuahua! You owe a dog a lifetime of security when you get one, but people just can't understand that.

I very rarely get annoyed but reading that article made me want to commit murder. I realise she is doing nothing illegal but the RSPCA should be paying her a visit and the kennel club should be circulating her name to all their registered breeders, I know it won't stop her but it may slow her down. Mind you her husband sounds a bit of a wimp.

I'd imagine a lot of that article was made up and/or had the wording changed. I've had stories published in horse magazines before, only to see that 40% of what I've written has had the content changed to something slightly more dramatic/thought-provoking etc.

We are looking for a small cheap companion/pet puppy so I have joined a lot of local Facebook pets for sale groups. Now I know where all those dark brindle Staffies in rescues are coming from! And some of the adverts are almost unintelligible. Endless adverts for young dogs and cats where the owner has made no effort to sort out the problems they are having or flat out shouldn't have got the animal in the first place. And the prices of crossbred non working type puppies are ridiculous.
