Gun dog enthusiasts help please!

Hi all,

I'm really struggling on what to get my dad's OH for xmas. Just remembered she has taken an interest in gun dog training and is now taking her springer to training sessions with the hope of doing som trials with her eventually. Any idea what gun dog related present I could get her, not wanting to spend over £20 as i'm on a tight budget this year.

Yes i've realised i'm leaving this whole xmas shopping thing a bit late!!!

Dummies are always handy to have, depending on age either a puppy one or 1lb are good, slip leads as if like me always losing them as well as dummies (throwing not good), failing that how about a book their are lots to choose from but Joe Irving books are good. Also lanyards and a whistle (but you will need to know what pitch she uses).

Forgot I have a few disc dummy`s which are great too. Happy shopping

I know this may sound silly but my gun dogs have got what look like PJ's to wear after a days shooting or trialling.

We need to look after our dogs as well as our horses.

Another thing is a game bag so that everything can be carried.


The bag and other training things can be got from your local gun shop.

How about a dog bag from Thermatex?
When the dog has got wet in the water retrieve, you towel the dog off, put the bag in the back of the car, dog goes in the bag, back of car clean and dog dry! Washing machineable. Loads of different colours too.

Echo the suggestion of a nice new whistle and lanyard, so long as you can find out what pitch is needed - they tend to get a bit manky Or a rabbit skin dummy?

Another recommendation for any book by Erlandson. At best, he was a difficult man, but wrote well, and he was a first class dog man. No doubt of that.
