Gundog people

Sounds like a promising day. Whereas it would have been lovely to be up in the awards you probably don't want to win a novice just yet! This of this as a solid base to build for next season, you can come out at Novice, a level that you know and go upwards from there.

No I said to my friend I definitely didn't want to win but 2nd would have been nice 😆 thank you that's what I'm hoping to do next WT season

Due to the rules changes with Crufts Special Working Gundog Classes (the Irish Field Trial Qualification is no longer acceptable even though it is the direct equivalent of your Show Gundog Working Certificate) I was talked into organising the very first KC Working Gundog Certificate to ever be held on the island of Ireland 😅

We had 11 dogs assessed and 9 passed the assessment. A real mix of breeds (Lab, Chessie, Goldie, Cocker, ESS, HWV and Weim!) and a big mix of show and Working lines.

I ran my own b1tch, Mimi, who passed with flying colours. Hopefully she doesn't decide Crufts is a good time to come in season again!!

Now that I've actually paid the deposit I think it's ok to share......the long awaited GLP, now named Aspen, is coming to Ireland in October 😁🥰 Not entirely sure what I've let myself in for as this will be our first foray into HPRs
I’m so excited for you! Surely they are just fast rangey spaniels… simples! 🤣

I’m unbelievably excited about this! Unlike me- You actually know what you are doing with gundogs, you’re going to have SO much fun with your lovely lad 😊

I can make him retrieve, the rest will be the blind leading the blind!

I remember his breeder saying they don’t automatically retrieve, but I’ve a friend who has spanner’s who says they don’t need reaching to hunt, they need teaching to retrieve so maybe that’s similar? (Hers are cockers).

Mine are natural retrievers, forever carrying. It's a consistent delivery that needs developing

This is why you’ll be awesome😁.

The ‘R’ is the thing you’ll need to be most dedicated in teaching, it’s the aspect that is least natural to them. The ‘H’ and the ‘P’ are inbuilt- the ‘H’ especially with the GLPs 😂 the Ferrari of the HPR world!

I've only had one spaniel in for training that was a non retriever.....they all retrieve eventually when their dinner is inside one of those snack dummies and they only way to release it is to bring to hand! He made a nice little rough shooting dog and pet in the end.

Puppy has her first session with a trainer on Thursday. I have to find a new one so am heading across the border to Cornwall. The idea is to see if I like this woman and check we are doing ok now. Then pup will be mainly sidelined until February. She is the fastest pup I’ve ever had. But very sweet and great fun.

Your old trainer is over here in a few weeks time, sadly I'd already booked myself on a show handling seminar with Jason Lynn so can't go!

As always I’ve left this far too late…
I need a waistcoat for shooting. I’ve about 5 already but none are quite right.
Plenty of pockets but not a training vest.
Not to make me look like I was made by a tyre compsny
Smart enough for the partridge moors.
Less than £100 please.
Will be worn with a smart shirt.
