Gundog people

I’ve got abit of a silly question so bare with me! Do dogs suffer with acid reflux? Our younger lab (3) has started throwing up bile in the night, initially it was after a ‘stressful’ day such as going out working or if we went on a big hike etc.
but she seems to be doing it more and more, there’s never anything in it and it’s always on/next to her bed so that would suggest it catches her off guard rather than her spending time pacing.
She is a natural stress head and has been on the same food for about 2 yrs.

Edit to add, she only does it overnight!

? Bilious vomiting syndrome. What time is her last meal? Have you tried giving her something to eat just before bed?
They get fed at 6 then 4:30 but we were talking about feeding 3 meals a day, they get a biscuit at bedtime too.

Haven’t heard of that so will have a google!

First day off the pheasant season with the old reliables. Myrka didn't do great and unfortunately I think surgery is inevitable in the next week or two.

Another trial yesterday, driven this time! Felt like we were sat off lead for hours during the drive 🤣

Unfortunately we picked the wrong bird so it was over pretty quickly for us. Two birds not very far apart, I was told my area, but didn't realize there was another bird so close, and hindsight is a wonderful thing but id sent him wrong for wind for the bird we were asked for 🤦🏽‍♀️ another more experienced trialler said I should've asked if I could step out of line slightly as how we were lined out was pushing us towards the wrong area (we were on a bit of a diagonal if that makes sense).

But another good experience!

Take the positive that he sat out the drive! Well done

Aspen has settled in, started retrieving to hand already. Been in the lake and did a few water retrieves making the most off the mild weather. Ringcraft today and was happy to be gone over and hand stacked.

Trials… when I go to pick up at the local one (us rough and readies always say we get the hard birds for you) my dogs lie down and go to sleep. Is that allowed in competition?
And I’m not dissing trials, that was a joke, the levels of training and control are so impressive.

Yes, as long as the dog is steady at heel but is obviously a disadvantage if it isn't marking down birds
I am nowhere near the level that I would ever enter but I thought it was a disadvantage if they marked as you may not send them for anything they have seen?
Back in Essex a couple of traillers came to us now and then for training and my impression was they wanted the dog to disregard what it saw.

Depends on the type of trial, walk up obviously marking is a huge advantage. Driven can be 50/50, if they send for a runner and dog isn't marking you are already at a disadvantage

I must admit I was rather twitchy as the drive went on 😬 I found it really tricky yesterday to mark down all the birds. We have another walk up trial on Monday, then that might be our lot until next season

Ran both pups in a Novice today

Mimi - very long run, about 15mins with no find during which time there was 7 retrieves and 3 dogs changes on the other side. Frustration boiled over and when she got a flush she proceeded to course it down the bog  :( BAD girl. This is her second misdemeanour in this vein after coursing a rabbit in the UK so we are on bootcamp now.

Sassy - fantastic first run, hunted better than I've ever seen her go. Lovely find and retrieve. Second run was VERY long, about 20mins and blank except for picking/pegging a partridge in heavy bramble which turned out to have a leg down so was discounted. Drawing a blank left us no chance of an award. Delighted with how she went though just frustrated with her luck.

We did a bit better today, got through to the last 3 dogs into round 3, but unfortunately we didn't make the area for our round 3 retrieve. Two other dogs had been tried previously and didn't pick but we didn't make the area. It was a wide section of beet and the area was out of the beet on the grass and he didn't want to leave the beet. But before that we did have a 3/4 dog eye wipe on a runner, we were the 5th dog tried, so we came away with guns choice 🥳

Oh that's frustrating, are dogs discontinued if they don't find a bird then? Even if no birds to be found?

Congratulations...Gun's Choice is a lovely award!

Another day, another trial....no luck. Had a long run in bramble where she worked well and was nicely steady to 2 retrieves on the other side. Then the LHS went lala and buggered off clearing all our ground chasing a running bird. The next dog in on LHS wasn't in the covert with us so they decided to bring me over to finish his ground. Lovely flush off her nose in a holly bank, shot out on the field. We only had about 15ft of woodland left so after some to and fro with the gun and keeper I was told to hunt it out then we would go for her retrieve as it wasn't possible to send from inside the covert due to a stock fence. The fence turned out to be our downfall, allowing her to pin an unshot cock against the bottom of it where the fence was inside dense bramble. Trial over for us. Gutted as she has never pinned unwounded game and if we had been taken out for our retrieve immediately as is normal procedure she wouldn't have had a chance to go wrong.

Ahhh no gutted for you

Does anyone know if winning guns choice at a FT counts as an award to enter the field trial and special working gundog classes at crufts? I'm pretty sure it doesn't as not a certificated award but thought I'd double check 😆

Nope, it doesn't unfortunately. You need a COM at minimum. For SWGC you can also do the WGC on game or dummies to qualify

Radio - can you bring Druid and the field trial dog to pick a runner?

Druid - ffs isn't this why we have a picking team?

Get sent to pick runner.

Duly pick runner with Skaer.

Radio - there's another one on the top of the bank 120y out stone dead. Left of the trees on the mound.

By this point the entire beating wagon and the gun team are watching the show due to our location at their parking spot.

Skaer? Wtf does back mean? Left? Never heard of it. I know I'll go check out the cover by the trees. 20 million Whistles and casts later .... Still not picked.

Heckling has started.

F*** it. Take Myrka off lead, send him. Straight over fence, through the ditch. Starts to veer off slightly. Stop whistle. Push back. 75y straight line taken, bang pheasant picked.

Round of applause from guns. Skaer sulking in the trailer by this point 🤣🤣

Thank god for geriatric old spaniels with 3.5 functional legs and a knee hanging on by a thread 😳
