So Madam had a pedicure today and overall all good (though still a little bruised after the too short trim from last time :().

She had some sand from the arena on her back left hoof, above the hoof in the little dip (don't know what it's called!). It's not easy to get off, the farrier looked at it and called it 'sand cracks' but when I googled that I just got lots of info on cracked hooves, which this isn't.

We had a really wet day a few days ago, and when we rode in the outdoor arena it was quite mushy in some area's, I am wondering if it's from that and we went through some of the soupy bits and it got stuck to that hoof? It doesn't seem to be bothering her, and I was thinking I could try just sponging it off?

Any thought/suggestions?

Sounds like a mud fever type of dermatitis which can end up in nasty cracks at the back of the heel maybe this is what your farrier was referring to .
