Gunman In Gateshead

I'm now watching BBC News and there's a man on the phone who could see the suspect through a window in his house and is giving a running commentary of what happened/is happening. He says Moat was walking along the river and when he saw police, put the gun to his head then lay down, then sat up with it pointed at his neck. He's now sitting by the river and the police are negotiating and are quite close to him.
 
Jaysus, I hope it's resolved soon. Then my mother can stop phoning me every 5 minutes panicking about him being loose and likely to turn up at her door and shooting her:rolleyes:
 
I'm so pleased he's been found, I can leave my windows open at night now. Hope it all ends peacefully. I've never known anything like this before and hope I'll never see it again.
 
According to UNconfirmed reports, Roaul Moats friend has been allowed in the Cordon and taken to him. But this is however, Unconfirmed.
 
At least it'll all be over once Gazza speaks to him!! Just when you think things things can't get any weirder, A drunken Gazza officers to help out!!!
 
So Moat has taken the only real option left open to him. He's topped himself. Strangely, for me anyway, I have a degree of sympathy for him, in that he backed himself into a corner, from which there was no escape, and that's despite the fact that he murdered one and injured two complete innocents. I don't know why I feel as I do. Strange!

I am not one for State sponsored executions, but considering that the man was clearly unbalanced, I'm surprised that considering that he was armed and a very real danger, that he wasn't shot immediately. Had he been unarmed at the time of his capture, that would have been another matter, but he was armed, and posed an unacceptable risk. Adequate grounds, in my view to negate that risk.

It speaks volumes for those attending armed police officers, that they showed considerable restraint.

If this had taken place in America he'd have had about a hundred rounds in him as soon as they found him. We were discussing this at dinner last night (because people kept getting texts - about Gazza mainly). Lots of us were saying 'what have they got to talk about, why haven't they just shot him?' Personally, I'd rather he'd been apprehended and faced legal proceedings than just been executed outright by the police.

The Gazza thing was really surreal though :cool:

assuming that Gazza really did promote his bright idea, and it isn't a load of media spin, then as you say it was surreal, and wandering into the realms of farcical!!

I'm also wondering how those negotiators must be feeling right now. I would doubt that blocking it out with sleep can be an option. We don't, and probably will never know, if they were standing in front of him when he shot himself. To be powerless to prevent such an act, and going into the details of the damage done by a shot gun at point blank range is needless, must be something which they will carry with them for many years.

Killing yourself is a very cowardly way out. He should have faced, in cour and prison, that of which he brought upon himself. You cant sympathise with an unbalanced person so like you say say there was no need to be negotiating with him.

The negotiators really shouldn't be feeling anything to be honest as it wasn't there fault they didnt have any control over his actions and he was armed therefore probally was going to do it at some point any way
 
were just pleased its all over up here , im not that far from rothbury and spent a lot of time there as a child.

gazza was a complete state what an idiot , he brought him a can of larger ,some chicken and some warm cloths
apparently he got a taxi straight from the "toon" (newcastle city center ,having been on the drink) like thats going to help .

hope the rest of the country doesn't think all us geodies are like that , it hasn't painted a pretty picture of the north east
