I've moved my mare very recently to a new yard, the previous one was great for me, extremely friendly, fun, clinics and support.
I moved because it wasnt for my mare.

I've been here a week, lovely place, idylic, owners very helpful but not around, 4 liveries in total & i never see anyone, last few times I've lunged & she's lame, so vet needed, shes been attacked by mozzies, despite spray, rugs & masks, she's fed up, I'm fed up, we cant go back as they've filled our stable, which was unsuitable anyway!

Its 3am, can't sleep, my gut says I've made a huge mistake, but I also couldn't stay as mare kept getting cast in the stable, which was def on the too small side. ?

Just not sure what to do next...vet obvs, but having 3 pts in the last few yrs, this is probably going to be expensive and serious AGAIN...!

First of all if the last yard was a welfare issue for your mare you did the right thing moving.
Second, (not scientific but guessing) 9 times out of 10 lameness will be a minor, recoverable problem. So don’t jump to the worst case scenario.
Can you find out when the other liveries are around and make a point of being there. Just to introduce yourself and find out what goes on that you might be able to join in with.
Give it time. If you have made a mistake choosing this yard you can move again.

I'm so sorry. Having lost 3 horses so recently your mind is understandably worrying that it might be serious with this one too.
You are likely feeling down because you loved the previous yard and in your mind any new place won't compare. That's entirely normal IME!

Do try and take it one day at a time , focus on getting the lameness resolved first before worrying about if the yard is right for you or not. Maybe give yourself a break and allow yourself to keep am open mind - say give it 6 months and if still unhappy, look for somewhere new?

One day at a time though - and keeping everything crossed that the lameness is something minor !

All the demons come at 3 in the morning...they haunt most of us. Good advice above...do what you can to alleviate imminent problems and look for another move. It ll come alright...i hope you sleep better tonight.

Thank you all, Ordered the skin so soft, met all the liveries this week and they all seem lovely, but none ride or stay around, bring in, feed, go. The lameness seems to be resolving itself after a physio PEMF treatment, so will commence gentle hacking again this week ! Mo seems happy to be out, although she seems to have met every type of weather in the last 3 weeks.

You need to separate the horse problems from the yard concerns. The lameness etc issues aren't connected with the yard, although see that they are getting you down. More concerning is that if you are a sociable person and the yard is very quiet, it may not suit you but presumably you thought this option was better so do give it a chance. Can you join a riding club or similar for the social side if it is missing at the yard?
