She's practically killing herself in the trailer

She's just petrified. I have honestly never seen a horse as scared and het up as her. She'ss fully clipped bar her face as I can't get near it, and sweat drips off her onto the floor after a short journey, (10 mins).

I'm gutted she's so scared, and my mum won't listen to my YO, instructor and other people telling her to drive slowly to let my mare get her confidence (My mum tows really fast) and she's now telling me that I can't go to my PC rally in December at Moreton Morrel, or travel her anywhere untill after Christmas. I'm gutted that she's so scared, and I really doubt time off will help it.

Mum's word is mum's word unfortunately, we're both stubborn and always think we're right, although i'm not as bad as of recently.

Any tips on the travelling?
And I know that this is a long shot, but if anyone wants their horse/pony to experience a PC Rally, I'll happily take them..

you might need to face the reality that if your mum tows too fast your horse may never get over her fear! is it just a bit quick or way too fast?? I'd never let my horses be towed any quicker than i feel safe, i'd rather not go and have an uninjured horse

Yep - ask your mum to listen to other people when they advise her to slow down!

I'd class it as too fast.. My mare began getting scared in the trailer after being taken hunting by someone who tows Way too fast, and we think she slipped under the partition.

Everytime we turn a corner (Turn right if she is standing on the left, or turn left if she is standing on the right) she'll throw herself the opposite way to ensure that she doesn't go near the partition.

Is the partition in or out?

My boy lost his confidence travelling but as soon as I took the partition out he was fine

Either talk to your mother and ask why she cannot tow a horse properly, or find someone with horse sense to tow her extra slowly a few times so that she gets her confidence back so your mother learns how much difference there is between towing a horse and towing a caravan or whatever.
No point keep going out and frightening the poor horse, I'm suprised she still loads a lot of horses would be refusing to go in.

Take out the partition AS SOON AS YOU GET SOMEONE NOT STUPID to tow your horse. I don't care what she says or thinks. If she really is towing too fast and with neither thought or concern for your poor horse, then she is irresponsible and inhumane. Show her this.

I have to agree with brightinsel on this one.... dont let your horse be towed by someone who is that stubborn that even when they know the horse is petrified wont slow down... really not fair on the horse!

people dont like to admit they cant drive its human nature - ask her to let you prove the difference, put a bucket of water in the trailer and get someone who can drive properly to go up the road and come back - the bucket should still be full - get your mum to do it and if you can find the bucket........

I'd seriously consider tying mother up in the trailer and swinging her through a few roundabouts! Either that, or break her neck because that is what is going to happen to your mare if you (or rather your mother) doesn't take more care. Know anyone in the police who could put the frighteners on her by telling her she is driving carelessly and putting not only your mare but other drivers too into danger? How old are you, old enough to still have the money to keep horse if mother blows a fuse, are you driving yet so that all you need to do is pass that test?
Sorry, it must be crap having a mum like that. (You can tell how mad I am for you and your mare, mother doesn't have a capital M!

easy test to see if she is towing too fast. Get her to drive the trailer empty with just a bucket of water where the horse normally stands filled to within 2 inches of the top of the bucket. If she spills any (ok a few drips is okay) out of the bucket then she is towing too fast for a horse. You have to set up a horse for a turn or a roundabout before going round it. This is how my dad taught me to tow a trailer and I can safely say I have never had a horse go down or come off looking like it has run the london marathon. Yes you can go a reasonable pace on a straight but turning and bends must be taken easy to keep the horse upright. Good luck with your mum. Oh and where are you based that you need a horse for PC?

Please make your Mum read all these posts, then she will surely realise she is frightening your poor horse. Then take the partition out. My mare wont go near a trailer with one in but is calm and happy without. Good luck!
