I have a 1996 Ifor Williams 505 trailer of which i had the floor checked today. It has now been deemed unsafe to use as it is rotting and needs a new floor.

I am so gutted as i have been quited £800 for the floor and a new side panel.

Sorry a useless post but i am just fed up

£800? I got a new wood floor put in my Rice trailer for £300.

Perhaps worth getting a quote from somewhere else?

Also for £800 you can get a well maintained and updated old trailer if you look hard enough. Although they are often the sort with the leaver on the tow hitch that you have to set before you can reverse.

Unfortunately I have to tell you that sounds about right. I had to do the exact same repairs with my '98 505 about 18 months ago, the local dealer wanted £1100, I phoned around and got it done down at the dealer in Swansea and paid £705 including a service. Bank Farm Trailers if you're interested... I took it down on the Monday and collected it on the Thursday. But then again, it's even further for you to get there than it was for me! Seriously, try a few other places and see if you can't improve a bit on that quote.

I would be shopping around a bit more personally, I got a new double floor put in a rice for £200 some 3 years ago. Professional neat job and solid as an ox.

I am in berks/oxon area, so bit far but there must be some decent people that could perform this task for you a lot cheaper, without detriment to horses safety.

Thats disgusting what they have quoted you. I am presuming wood not ally?

about 3 years ago Ifor williams main dealership in corwen put an aluminium floor in our old ifor for £100.

well worth phoning them anyway.

I Did mine myself. Floor had got wet and rotted through, so i got 4 stretches or Iron angle the width of the trailer and bolted them to the underneath with the flat part of the Iron angle flush with the bottom of the trailer. The 90 degree angle strengthened the trailer.
I ripped the floor up, bought timber and laid it length ways up the trailer, another layer of timber width ways and then Ply wood sheets over the top of that.
It lasted years and only took a few weekends work. I only paid for the wood. And i;m not particularly handy!
