Like it says in the title really - just want a cyber hug from others who have lost a share in the past too!
I have been sharing this absolutely gorgeous cob for the last 5-6months who has been brilliant and everything I could ever want in a horse - safe, confidence-giving, close to home, hacks out alone and I have had the most wonderful few months hacking out with him & my dog. But he's not just a happy-hacker - he's also a really good all-rounder and that's where the problem lies. He's not competed as much anymore by his real's mum child as they have a new pony for him and somebody saw him out competing and made a very good awful. Its a fabulous home and he's going somewhere where he'll be adored (assuming they take him - going on trial for this weekend - but they will take him as he is practically perfect in everyway) but I only have one more week with him and I am besotted with him

I couldn't have afforded him and he would have been wasted with me anyway as he can do so much more than just hack but I am going to struggle to find another share as I am looking for small cob size due to a bad injury and most are just too big

I have been umming and ahhing about buying my own but had just 99.999% talked myself out of that as I knew I wouldn't have anything as perfect as my current ride but not sure what to do now

Sympathy please

oh how horrid! Its so hard when you share because you bond with them like they are yours, but ultimatley they bellong to someone else. How heartbreaking. Good luck finding something else.

oh dear!!! Poor you!!!! I started looking for a safe Cob when i decided to get back into riding after a break of about 5 years. they are few and far between, so I ended up with Dragon!! Not at all what I was looking for but perfect for what I want, so glad I looked at him, he really is super!!!! I guess what i'm saying is don't rule things out- Drag was a harness racer but has turned out to be a cracking little riding horse!!x

Not unless I could find upwards of £3000 and even then probably not. His really mum is fab and she would only sell him if she thought he was going to a brill home and I cannot compete with what he will be going to. Family that have their own horse/s, land, right next to their horse - he'll be totally spoilt rotten. So, its a good deal for him but just gonna miss him. He's a real dude!
Thanks for the kind words though.

Loads of ((((((sympathy hugs)))))) coming your way! Years ago I had a mare on loan for 9 months, when she went back to the owner, I sobbed and sobbed for 3 days!

After that, I realised how attached I got, and vowed NEVER to loan another horse again, unless it was a short term (months trial) for a loan view to buy! Personally if I were you, I would buy your own and get someone to share with you

xx

oh no, poor you, that must be heartbreaking for you. I put my old sharer of my cob in exactly the same position as you when i sold him and we had become good friends whilst she was sharing him so i can really empathise with how you must feel, we shed many a tear about him going as well (he was 14"3 cob - talented but not that talented and was 100% bombproof, i had known him since he was 2 and bought him at 11, sold at 15...im 5"9 and not light so it wasnt really fair on him to keep him). Big hugs for you xx

Where are you?

There are loads of owners on here looking for sharers ... I'm in East Sussex with two 16.2hh + nutters that would not be suitable but I'm sure someone has just what you are after!!

Hi, I am in Edinburgh. Nutters definitely not for me - I like their spirit and I can cope with nutters of the canine kind but I just want a comfortable sensible hack. No jumping, no school, happy to do a bit of cantering but that's about it really. Ideally good with dogs as the best bit about riding Jack was being able to go out with my dog. Nothing like that feeling of man, dog & horse all cantering along together! Unfortunately I am not the lightest (12stone) but I am dieting but as I want short that limits my options further!!!

Aw big big hugs hun, i know it's tough

I lost my absolute dream horse after sharing her for a year. She really was perfect for me and i still miss her all the time, even though it's been several years. Maybe his new owners wouldn't mind sending you an odd update now and again? It would be worth asking if you didn't feel it would be too painful.

The brood mare i am besotted with where my share gelding is, is being sold and sent to another country within the next week or so. I was really excited about her having a gorgeous baby in summer and then re-backing her etc. She's the sweetest most beautiful girl, but with so much fire. But unless i win the lottery i can't afford the masssssive price tag on her.

So lots of sympathy from me but i guess it's part of life, loved ones come and go and their loss is always felt and remembered, but that's how it works.

Big hugs from me !

When I was 13 I had a share pony that was my absolute world . i was very ill at the time and without him I probably wouldnt be here (. I still miss him to this day . i'd be far too big for him now but I still think about him often .

Dont give up , take lots of photos , spoil him , make the most of your time together .

If you are in a position to buy your own horse I would as then the horse will be yours and you dont have to worry about it being sold on , moved , loaned out or taken away .

X

Well - his mum confirmed today that the trial worked out and he is staying in his new home so no more Jack for me
frown.gif
The new home does sound brilliant though so I know he'll be really happy but the selfish part of me wants him to come back to Edinburgh!!!

I have a possible share elsewhere now - going to view him on wednesday. Fingers crossed he'll also be bomproof, easygoing, etc, etc!

Thanks to everyone who replied and extra hugs to everyone who replied who are also going through the same! x

That's now I felt after my first share ended, he was an amazing horse that taught me so much I thought I'd never replace him.

15 months later and I've had another great share, I've nearly finished my NVQ2 in horse riding and care and today... I have bought my first horse!

Funnily enough although he gave me so much confidence he wasn't the most relaxed or sedatest, but he was one of the first horses I have a relationship with.

And now I have my own and WOW, he's perfect.

So chin up, there are other great horses out there!

Sounds like you really loved and cared for him even if it means you two can't be together

you are the type of sharer I would love for my horse. Hope you find something else x

Very encouraging. I can see myself taking your route to my own horse. Its very tempting to buy now but I need more knowledge/experience. Your post is inspiring me.
