Have just found out for sure, that Twiggy is NOT in foal after all the 'promising signs' these last few weeks. We took her to the stud to be checked thoroughly by John Newcombe (who scanned her in foal last year) and she is empty so it's back to the drawing board which will probably involve regular scans right the way through the next pregnancy.
To say I am gutted is an understatement, but that's life with horses, they always put you in your place whether you like it or not!
I knew it was a mistake to use a Ticker thing!

Anyway, onwards and upwards. She'll stay at stud and be covered by Embla Alfred, an Irish Draught to have a change from a coloured. This is him but sorry they're not great, taken off a photo -

Oh what a shame

Just fat then- oh well, at least she's happy!!
New hubby looks nice, should be a nice easy going cross for her

Im absolutely gutted to hear this Pat.
I for one wanted Twigs so much to have that foal, after all the ups and downs T had with her.
Things happen for a reason and I think new hubby looks like he could do the deed well

Best of luck

we shall just have to go through all the excitment again next year.

Well, we all knew Twigs wouldn't be a walk in the park didn't we?

The good thing is, she DID conceive, so next time we have to concentrate on her keeping it and how we do that I need to have words with JN and the stud to decide. One thing I know, it'll probably be expensive if Twig has anything to do with it!

ruddy Twiggy - new husband looks very smart. Fingers crossed that it all goes well for you.

Aw that is such a shame. Fingers crossed that the new guy does the job and that Twiggy holds it this time.

OH B****** b******* B*********!!!!!!
I have to say this has happened to me before after a positive scan, I even pointed to the foal kicking at one point...
What a disappointment, but get her back there quick, I agree try a different stallion, it's always wiser if they don't hold.
Fingers' crossed she takes an holds this time.

She's already there, should be covered this week fingers crossed please!

Am gutted for you buts she with the best man in the country to sort her out and make sure she gets and stays in foal this time.

Thanks Sally.

I know you're right, but she was also there with him last year too - what's his excuse this time?! Only joking of course cos I don't think there are any vets better at maternity work than him; it's all he lives for; as soon as our stud season finishes he's off in a plane to Australia/NZ, to deal with theirs!

Im sure you have just been unlucky i think something like 10% of pregnancies fail she may have got a bug or something at some point who knows.
Im sure he will get to the bottom of it though as i know he will leave no stone unturned.
He did an amazing job for us when we lived in the midlands with a friends mare.
They had tried for 3 seasons to get this mare in foal to differant stallions and failed ,
My own stud vet (louellas as well)said she was a waste of time she was so bad so i offered my stallion by AI if she took mare to John who got it in foal 1st time.
That resulting foal is eight now and friend decided that as mare was age 23 that she might want another (not covered in between) .
By now we are in Devon so back she went to John Newcomes from Leics and we sent chilled semen up and he still got her in foal 1st time.
Absolute god in my books.

Oh how very disappointing.

I'm gutted for you. Best of luck next time is the only thing I can say. H. x

Oh no...how gutting. I'm terribly sorry to hear that Pat - typical bloody Twiggy! Let's hope for a foal next year then. Hope you are all well? Probably won't be competing at Malpas this year - seems to be our bad luck event! 2 years ago they got technically eliminated for jumping a novice fence (it would have been P's first double clear) and last year stirrup leather snapped a third of the way round the course! We shall no doubt see you there, if not before - I keep promising to come and visit! You will have to tie me down soon!

Oh that is a shame

Trust Twiggy to make things a little difficult

Must be terribly frustrating for you.

Good luck with the next coupling....stallion looks utterly gorgeous. Here's hoping that Twigs manages to keep hold of the next one and you get a live foal at the end of it.

Bethxx

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this. I have followed Twiggy's story for a long time, and truly hoped she would produce you a wonderful foal this spring. Sadly it's not to be this time for whatever reason. Lets hope she takes this year and produces a foal worth waiting for.

Best wishes for a cracking '08 foalie, don't give up on her, she's a super mare.

Thanks Beth, trust Twigs to put a spanner in the works eh? At least she has made my mind up where Bea goes (it was all hinging on what Twig was up to!) which is to Heatley Avalon at End House (have a free return there too!)

Next time you talk to or see JAK, give her my regards please, hope life is treating her a lot better now and we all are looking forward to when she'll be back on here.

You can bet your boots I won't give up on Twig, I love her to bits! I would love her to be a great broodmare, it would be another career for her after all instead of just being a field ornament.
