Saw one advertised on Facebook and was curious because they look more like a saddle than the Thorn pads do…and have panels underneath with a gullet. I always thought Thorn/Snape pads didn’t have a gullet for a reason, but might be wrong there.

So… would a pony pad with panels and a gullet be a good thing or a bad thing? Was thinking it might be better than having to pad up under the Thorn pads for the ones with withers.

They're brilliant.
Comfy for the pony and supportive for the rider. My 12 year old daughter has the jumping one on her pony and they do BS and pony club

How do you know which size to get? Same as treed saddle size? Does your pony have withers! Thanks for the reply!

I saw my first one in the flesh a few months ago, it has a fixed headplate which is pretty narrow, anything narrow enough for it to "fit" is likely to have enough wither to tip it back. I'm wary now, having thought they looked great.

I wonder if the Pad-dle might be better, but not seen one in the flesh

You just go by your riders height.

There are not pressure points for the pony as the spine is free and the withers are also free. We use a half pad underneath it with a saddle pad and it fits 3 of our jumping ponies
