Anyone used him?

Is he generally difficult to contact as I cant get a reply to phone or emails? I'm thinking of sending my horse but am concerned as there appears to be a communication problem which would be a bit worrying once the horse is there.

Thanks.

I live very close to him & have only heard good things :) he does have a fb page you could try, I know he is always very busy!

Thanks.

I haven't heard any bad things with regards to training but just can't seem to get a response. I'm wondering what the communication will be like when the horse is there.

I liked his FB page as I was thinking about sending my boy there, still might if I can save enough money!

I know there is a coffee morning at his yard on 22 June which looks quite interesting. Along with a demonstration its advertised as a chance to have a look around the facilities for anyone thinking about sending their horse there. Might be good for you if you're still struggling to make contact.

There is also a clinic on 15 June that I was hoping to go to but can't make it unfortunately.

Used him - he came to me. He's excellent. A man of very few words but is fantastic with horses. Agree not the best at communication - think I left a voice mail. Highly recommend.

Thanks miss candy and elfen.

Yes, I shall probably go to the coffee morning but its a bit of a drive and I am glad for feedback so I don't waste precious little time that I have at the weekend. I believe you just turn up on the day? No idea about the clinic but I'm training in Cambridgeshire anyway that day.

Reassuring to hear your opinions. I have sent two horses away at different times and different places and did not have good experiences either time so I am a little anxious.

No, you have to book a place on the coffee mornings. Just had a look on his website and you have to contact him to book a place so that probably won't help you as you're struggling to get in touch anyway!

That's confusing Miss candy. I did think I read that you had to book but the one email I did manage to get from Victoria who I assume works for Guy just said turn up on the day.??

I'm a little uneasy as they don't seem very interested. I haven't actually been able to speak to anyone and no questions have been asked about the horse. I'm probably a little paranoid now due to the previous bad experiences.

I've unfortunately heard a few bad things, well more niggles than anything else... Takes a long time to get things done, didn't see much improvement and takes weeks to answer the phone. I've never met the gentleman before but from pictures seen he's fairly tidy in a rough and ready cow boy way... If nowt else you could just look at him ;)

ETA and he's expensive compared to others locally.

I dont know anything about him but my pet hate is people who dont have the curtesy to reply to people especially if you are a potential customer!
I just think its so rude, no matter how busy you are it only takes a couple of minutes to return an email or phonecall.

I have used Guy to start and train my horses with amazing results. Also he has taught me to have a better understanding of what I am doing wrong.

Thanks donkey gary.

I gave up with Guy in the end as the lack of response made me think that he didn't want to help me and there was clearly no pint pursuing matters. I sorted the horses myself in the end with the help of someone local at home which worked out really well and was a huge but enjoyable learning curve for me.

I'm glad it all worked out well for you.

I've used him twice on two different horses, my stallion went for de-sensitising and my sisters mare went for full breaking, we left the mare for 6 weeks although I think 4 weeks would have been suffice and she needed some time off when she came back as she seemed to be getting stale with all the work but he did a great job with her and we were pleased. I wouldn't send another for de-sensitising as he didn't come back any less sensitive but was less tense through his neck and better mannered on the ground although he was always quite good on the ground anyway.
Victoria is his fiancé who is pregnant and I think due anytime which may be why he's a bit hard to get hold of at the minute as I didn't have any problem that way. I would definitely send youngsters for backing or problem horses that need backing but just not for the de sensitising but that's only my experience with that particular horse

The best way I've found to contact him is via pm on facebook. Victoria is his wife and does the admin side. From what I understand he advertises spaces as they are available for taking horses in, and if he's out on yard visits in a particular area and there's a gap in his day. I believe the coffee mornings are very popular so booking early is best.

I've not used him myself (circumstances changed before I could, although I had him booked to come out) but have heard good things about him.

I have (well my horse has had) direct experience of Robertson horse training. That is all I would wish to say on a public forum.

I will say however that If you choose to send your horse anywhere ...then INSIST that you visit regularly ..or better still, call in unexpectedly and see how your horse is faring ...and what is happening to them.

I believe that the horse training industry should be governed and licensed...although that is perhaps a topic for another discussion.

Thanks happy -Appy,

I did ask them If I could visit the horse but as this was not allowed without prior notice and it was impossible to actually get to speak to anyone, I didn't follow it up.

It seems to be a minefield out there regarding sending a horse away and getting it back safely in one piece sound in mind and body.
