He's quite local to me and is obviously very very succesful - does anyone know what he is like as a trainer as I am considering going to him once a month or so. Cheers x

I know him personally, and I would say it would depend on what level you were riding/jumping at. Actually, he's doing a lecture/demo at Willow Farm (Faversham) on Wednesday, with Graham Fletcher and Gemma Paternoster. Should be interesting.

I'm simply asking what he is like as I like to be pushed quite hard etc, I have a young novice horse and I am getting back into competition, I did quite a bit as a junior, but havent had the horse/opertunity since. I have had a session with Graham Fletcher but used to have Rob Hoekstra years ago.

We used to have Rob too. He was brilliant with my daughters' pony, but when we changed horses, he didn't like the way the new horse went as his tempo was a bit erratic, and we stopped having him. We haven't had Graham, as he's a bit too far to be beneficial, just having the odd lesson when he's down this way.

Maybe give Guy a ring and have a chat with him about what level you are at etc, and he'll be able to advise on what he can do. He'll definitely push you, so if that's what you are after, then go for it.

A friend of mine trains with him and really likes him she was only at BN level said he was really good !!

I know him personally but never trained with him but im sure he would push you and get the best out of you and the horse !!

I trained with Rob for nearly a decade, and would agree entirely with your comment about him hqving to like your horse. If the horse ticks the boxes though he is one of the best trainers around.

I haven't trained with Guy but used to compete against him regularly (before he was famous

)...he is 110% competitve though so I would expect him to push you quite hard

Would be interested to hear what you think if you do go though as he's not a million miles away from me either...

He trains a friend of mine - from what I've seen if you want to be pushed he's brill, but he likes to see an improvement on his next session and see you have been doing your homework! And don't swear when you go over the jumps - he is very dissapproving of that!!

Very nice guy ! (if you'll excuse the play on words!!!)
