Gypsiy Weddings

All I can see when I watch them is poor little Neddy. We're 90% sure he did that and the way he used to move pretty much confirms it.
I feel so sorry for those horses and the other road users :O Can you imagine if a learner met something like that?! As someone still with their L plates, I honestly would have no idea what I would do.

I've never watched the program. But from what I hear, it just seems people watch it to make themselves cross.

They all shout on fb how much it annoys them, then sit down again next time it's on to watch it again.:confused:

I think alot of the things we see about travelers/gypsies/hawkers is sometimes the exeption and not the rule... Granted the horses on mbfgw were being run hard but for the most part they are well cared for and well looked after.
For example the person who I know well who races has recently had stem cell treatement and various other things done for his prize and favourite horse he has even traveled to the other end of the country for him, forking out thousands due to the horse jumping out of the stable, most would have pts but he chose to spend a lot of £££ and time rehabilitating this certain hore who he cares about dearly.
and we are shown travelers, not romany gypsies. Irish travelers in particular have sullied romanies image. I dont agree with all they do but tbh I think 'real' gypsies are good people, honest, respectable and kind

Friend is reading 'gypsy boy' written by a Romany. Might change your mind ERR.
Personally I think there are good and bad travellers just as there are good and bad non travellers.

Well the ones that aren't must all live here then. I've caught them trying to pinch anything 6 times in 4 months & their vans trapse up & down our street all day every day looking for anything they can lift.

Yes there are some decent ones, but I don't see them as the majority

Wasn't just the horses really that made me mad, was the fact they were very aggressive with their cars and other road users! They said if another car comes the other way then tough!! Horses were here before cars, well doh it wasn't the horses causing the problems, it was them swigging John Smiths, littering the road with cans and driving 4 abreast!! What annoys me is one of the firemen who works here was responding to a shout on his bike and it had no lights, the police stopped him and gave him a lecture, even when the appliance drove past with all the other firemen waving, they didn't believe him and followed him to the station as they didn't believe he was a fireman.... yet stuff like this.........

Also how the hell do they afford all their cars and caravans and horse trailors, carts, weddings, hen nights, sunbeds 5 times a week??????????? I don't get it, we have 4 jobs between us and we could never afford stuff like that!

The travellers near our old place used to hammer horses down the road who were so young they still had FOAL TAILS.

And the fire brigade had to come out because one of these FOALS being driven like this trapped its hoof down a drain cover, one of those drain covers with TINY gaps. Thats how young they drove them.

Paris1 I have read it actually, by mikey walsh? As I say there is differentiation in every class, race or culture. How about reading the girl in the painted caravan by eva petulengro (think I have spelled it right) for the flipside.

Ah right, sorry about that. I thought you were lumping together all travelers, stereotyping them on the basis of one book which I will admit can be easy. Sorry about missunderstanding you. For example in gypsy boy his father abused and beat him, that happens in our society, his uncle raped him... That happens too some people dont understand that just because you have a 'label' doesnt mean your exactly what it says on the tin, we are all individuals and yes some INDIVIDUALS may race their horses as babies, beat their dogs and generally be ********s but other INDIVIDUALS treat their horses better tham their mothers and nont steal, litter or cause problems.
btw I wasnt having another go at you, I was just getting my point across further.

Didn't watch it pleased to say. To be honest I see so much of it on a daily basis that its the last thing I want to see in my own home !!
Horses being raced past our property, constant break-ins, threats to my mum, our neighbours not to mention the ever present police helicopter. Dogs stolen, dogs abandoned, horses abandoned, oh and the human slave trade 2 miles from me. My son being spat at in the face at school and punched in the ribs, my daughter being called things she doesn't even understand. Phew I could write a book.
Turn back time 10 yrs or more and life was peaceful, low crime rate, pleasant place to dwell. The local MP is great but man from the council says "we have to help these people they are so poor ???? Yep the slave trade lot had a brand new Ferrari.
How times change and France seems like a great place to live.

I don't like any of the travellers I've had the misfortune of coming into contact with. However, I was impressed with the rugs and travel boots on the horses. The horses looked in good condition and were obviously old enough to be doing a lot of work. I'm not saying I approve of the work they were doing, but in my mind I could see skinny 2yr olds racing, so I'm pleased these horses looked old enough and in the right condition to be worked.

On the other side I didn't like them trotting and racing on the roads, legal factors aside, I just don't like it because of the impact on the joints ... but I feel the same way when I see people out hunting who are pounding down the road in a massive hunting trot, with many people cantering. I also didn't like how hot the horse looked after, without little cool down. Even my non horsey house-mate commented that the horse was "shaking".

As for the dogs by the neck - I thought he was holding them by their scruffs, which is fair enough.

I didn't like the horse stuff because I didn't like their attitudes and total disregard for other road users, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at the horses condition. I really thought it would be much more unpleasant than it was.

We all have to be carefull when we watch programms on televisions etc as people do react differently when being given the opportunity of being filmed. Super-safe me forgot to put on my crash hat when having a photo shoot with the press and under normal circumstances I never forget to wear my crash hat.

Having said that the driver of the articulated lorry who clearly saw them coming towards him on the other side of the road dangrously sounded his horn at them when he passed them.

I was pleased to see that the children wore crash hats while driving the horses on the roads and that the horses had leg protectors put on them prior to being travelled.

Racing on the roads and driving the horses so aggresively on the roads was dangerous to other road users, themselves and their horses.

Have these races been tradittionally carried out on the roads? Is it not time to change this for the sake of safety.

Ex racer, I agree , as a gorger myself :), we have had Romany gypsies stop on our farm, totally lovely people, who also raced their ponies almost as shown on C4 tonight .

However they DO have huge respect for their horses ( horses being the word) not babies who have not even developed a full tail, do nit think they are above the law, the first thing that was put on was a sweat sheet, yes, did race, but on suitable surfaces, and did not make the roads dangerous for other road users.

HUGE difference between romanies and travellers

Funny.... our local romany gypsy's weren't so lovely, breaking into our neighbours in the middle of the night, tying them up and putting blankets over their heads and threatening them. Luckily they were caught, but as you all say probably nothing will come of it as they can apparently do what they want!

As for someone saying the horses would of been put in a lovely dry stable afterwards, well I find that pure b******s!!

Soooo, IF racing these poor bloody horses on the roads is ILLEGAL then how come, when they now have televised evidence of them doing it they can't have them arrested for it??? Makes me really rather angry!!!!

They'll be showing them robbing someone next as part of the 'gypsy way'......

I really shouldn't watch this programme should I!

And bugger - HOW did i make a spelling error on my post title? See, that's how mad I am I reckon! :)

I made the mistake of watching some of it last night & got so angry... "I dont know why the police pick on us and arrest us for fighting and stealing, why cant people leave us alone" That had me shouting BECAUSE YOU ARE BREAKING THE FOOKING LAW at the TV

I also agree with aresting them using the filmed evidence (poor bloody horses) & perhaps torching the camps (but that may be a small step too far) how about hunting them with rabid dogs?

Years ago I lived somewhere where we had quite a few travellers, a couple had houses down there and apart from one family who apart from singing really loud at night, gave us no bother.
The others, well they stole from us and beat my sister in an alleyway but I also used to livery on a yard that had a traveller but he was very nice, had a beautiful stallion who he was training to race but he was a nice guy and his wife was ok too.

It didn't make me that angry at all really. Probably because I see it all the time and it doesn't surprise me. They do it all the time in Weston Super Mare where I used to live - whatever. Rolkur makes me more angry than this petty rubbish.

At least they are looked after and pounding the roads is no different than wild horses galloping on rocky mountains. Saw three kids on a trap on Sunday going hell for leather through Bitton... little pony nearly came into my brand new car!

Better off venting anger by donating to Brookes (other equine charities are available) because where they work, some REAL cruelty is taking place!!!

On a positive note... one of the horses had travel boots on, but on the down side, they were on the worng legs Durrrr.

But thats as far as my positive energy goes on the matter, as I couldn't see them doing anything else remotely positive for their horses....

Made me cringe hearing the horses hooves pounding so hard on that road - for 2 MILES!!!!

Only two miles? We have a couple round here that train through the surrounding villages and on the A25. Training drives are anything up to 10 miles and from the looks of things, not much slower than races. I've been behind them in the village many a time and they pace at nearly 30mph at times.

What I don't get is the Police harp on about not having enough evidence to support a case in court.... yet CH4 have everything filmed.

Anyone remeber the guy who fitted a camera to the handlebars of his motorbike and filmed himself riding at over 160mph on the motorway and then posted it on Youtube... well he was arrested, and not only arrested but they guy went to prison... so whats the difference here??

Even if they did arrest them, there are plenty more boys waiting in the wings to take the place of the one who went to prison. The police know that even if they did arrest them, it wouldn't stop it.

We had a horrible experience last year. My daughter was out riding her horse with another lady. A young lad was on a cart pulled by a very young excitable horse coming in the other direction. He could see that the horse my daughter was riding was petrified (she'd never seen a cart before), but wouldn't slow down and seemed to think it was funny and started to make noise and come towards her semi-threateningly.

My daughter's horse bolted (Luckily, she had got off to lead her past the scary object as this usually works). She bolted all the way back to the yard in gallop on a busy main road. No harm done, but could have been very serious, and the lad just thought it was funny. I see him doing the same all the time round the streets, and the horse looks very unhappy. It's sad.
