what would be a fair price for a gypsy cob colt around 7-8 months old to buy??? not registered but out of well feathered nicely marked stallion? not getting yet but wondered for the future as the cheapest i can find is £1500!!!

Hiya! A friend of mine bought a coloured yearling recently to bring on - a proper vanner with big feet and feathers - for £1000. Genuine breeder - somewhere in Wales!

You need to speak to Theresa F, she knows her stuff here! £1,500 for a quality baby would be cheap at the price but not sure about papers - as I say, ask Theresa, she's your lady for furry coloured babies! lol

I paid £1800 ( with fees) for mine. He was not a colt but a 6 year old gelding by the old horse of wales ( well known gypsy vanner stallion) and the old black mare from the Leominster horse sales last September. He came from the William Collard stud in Nant Glas, Powys, Wales.
Their website is web page gypsy horse international
you could try contacting them
and here is Mcfly ( aka Oakfield George) pic taken in May this year

Was told my youngster Romi that comes from my gypsy cob mare in the pic, and a stallion Jack The Lad (well known in ireland), that its worth around £1500. However she isnt for sale lol, shes my baby.

I paid £700 for my yearling, hes 14hh at the mo, very heavy legs and loadsssss of feathers. Wait until the winter months, thats what i did and got them cheaper.

My friend has been desperate to find an old fashioned gispy cob gelding and has combed Britain for one. They are in huge demand as they tend to be safe and sane and have real presence. She has now found Mr Right - 15.2, 8yrs old, skewbald - bought from a dealer in Herts for £3,750!

A very sensible choice. You can't beat them. I had th privilidge of owning a Tri-coloured skewbald for 18 years which could be ridden through Central London by itself, Hunted, Cross Countried and Show Jumped. He was hardly ever ill or poorly. The best of all temprements. No Spooking and as safe as anything on the roads. I could put anyone on him and he would behave perfectly.

Anything half way decent is going to be £1500 mark, more for a filly - a nice filly by Tonka was sold within days for £5,000, at 3 months. Gypsy horse prices have gone through the roof as they are very popular and many are now in the US who have gone mad for them. My breeder friends now exports to US, Australia, NZ, Europe and Canada.

I paid £1800 for Chancer at 13 months, and he was up for £2,500 but I had done some IT research and database stuff for the breeder so got him cheaper. I then had to have him cut, started jabs etc so he actually cost over £2,000.

Most GCs are not registered if from gypsy stock, Andrea at Meadowfarm UK sells good quality stock and nearly all of hers have DNA verified breeding. She is not the cheapest but you do get quality and well handled youngstock.

Yesterday I turned down £4k for Chancer - 3 years old and they didn't even ask if he was backed. Naturally I said no, as to replace him would now cost me in that region and he is my little boy for life.

You may get one for less, but it probably won't have much feather or be that great unless you are very lucky.
