It's now 20 past 11, pm, and I'm still here sitting at the laptop, when I have to be up at stupid o clock to go to work, Where I will have to use my brain for at least a few hours, but yet I cant turn off the computer, even though I know I'll hit to snooze button ten times in the morning. Could people stop putting up such interesting and relevant posts, so I can go to bed in the knowledge that I'm not missing anything!! (Only joking), but seriously, why do I have such an obsession, and do you have it too???

I agree with you entirely. What am I doing at this time of night still on h+h? Only good thing is I am on holiday so don't have to get up too early tomorrow!

It's not just me then LOL :D :D :D I've got an excuse for being on late at night I've got insomnia and don't sleep much anyway. But shorly there is something more productive i could be doing than HHO. ;) :p :D :D :D

I'm totally jealous, have to get up at 6.30, feed the dogs, cat and check horses before i get kiddies up to go to child-minder. And I do hit the snooze button, but i love this site, so i'll suffer the consequences. Would love to be off though. Really need to win the lotto or something so i can be!!

Dont sleep too well myself, and if i do go to sleep early, I'm awake half the night, so i can't win really. I'll just suffer on at work tomorrow. Secretarial work is so boring, but it pays the bills. which leads to another question. Am seriously thinking of changing career, want to go back working with horses. spoke to an old friend today, who told me i was mad to be still in an office, as i'm a real outdoors person. She reckons the monty roberts route is the way to go, that more and more people will choose the non-violent ways. I totally agree with non-violence, because it really doesnt work, but most irish people laugh when you mention monty roberts. What is the best way to go, as I do need to make enough money to pay the bills??Should I just suffer on at the office to feed my children and horses and keep it as a hobby. Wish I had a crystal ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yup I'm another!! Even when not alot is going on here, I still think '10 minutes more just incase something interesting is posted!!' I should be in bed now but nope, Im still here!!

but most irish people laugh when you mention monty roberts.

    Monty Roberts is a swear word in my house.

I think alot of this NH stuff or whatever you call it is falling out of favour as these people are exposed for what they realy are. I work with horses as a groom. The hours are long, The work is hard and the pay is c**p. But i enjoy it and couldn't imagen doing anything else.
If I could afford to have my own yard i would love to take in problem ponies and help them to give them a secure and safe future. I would not be tied to any form of horsemanship except everything Lucy taught me over the years. I would do things my way which is whatever is best for that perticular pony.
Oh what it is to dream ay  :D :D

Laura, Believe me, I'm the biggest sceptic when it comes to so called natural horsemanship, but I do think Monty Roberts brings scross a valid point, everything has it's flaws, but, I think his way of thinking is good. NON-violence!! Not saying I agree with it all, but compared to the circus that is parelli, come on. Just dont think I want to go down the BHS route, although at times, it seems it's the only one that counts!! i bought the stage one manual and workbbok, and just laughed at the way they make you do everything.
My yard is spotless, horses well cared for, and I know how to teach, ride etc... but the bhs would prob fail me on how i put a rug on or tailbandage!! Am at a loose end and dont know what direction to go????
What do you work at? Do you get to work with horses all the time??

Oh god don't get me started on the BHS  And i agree some of Monty Roberts stuff is ok I use similar technecs myself. It's the man i realy can't stand and as for Parelli well I rescued Horrid from a parelli home so i know how bad that is. :(
I've worked with loads of diffrent types of horses. Riding school, livery, Int 3 day event horses, M&M show ponies, hunters, broodmares and youngstock. Each has it's plus sides and each has it's down sides. Currently i'm freelancing doing horses, cleaning and gardening. I've been looking for another horse job but there's not much about in my area and there is always 100s of aplicants :(
What sort of thing do you enjoy doing with horses? Do you want to work with competition horses, Someones private horses, on a big yard or do you want to run your own yard?

Ideally, I'd like to run my own yard, but renting 8 acres, with a lunge arena and 4 stables will count that out, so maybe "break" for lack of a better word, and train, as well as give private lessons, or do an odd day at a riding schol would be my best option. I love most types, though prefer 3 day eventing, as it gives you the vest of everything. Hacking is good too though, and it depends on the animal. I was on holiday with my whole family last week, that is me, my 2 kiddies, my parents, 2 sisters and my other sister with her boyfriend and toddler. Thought it would be a disaster, putting us all together, but we actually managed it. Went treking, me, kiddies and 2 of my sisters, down in the Kerry mountains, it's like taking a 20 year step back in time. Riding school was rough and ready, but horses well cared for. I rode a Clydesdale type horse, and fell in love, seemed like a bit of a plodder, until i started messing about with trying to get him on the bit. He did it famously, was well proud of him. The girl working there said he is actually well schooled, but is a bit nappy from being in the riding school. Still wanted him though. If i had the money, he was coming home. Kids loved it too, and was delighted that Shauna, my 5 year old, didnt wuss out. She now thinks she's Ellen Whitaker, because she did a mountain hack. She has €7 in her moneybox to save for a pony, so I think I'm safe for another while.

Sorry for ranting on, must have been born with it, i do it all the time, cant help it. Would love to talk to you, will get a number at some stage and ring from work(work for my dad, so i'll prob get away with it). If you are ever in Ireland, give a shout, would be lovely to meet you, and I think my horses would love you.

Take care

Sounds like a good plan to me. I would avoid getting tied down to a particular NH technech as I said i think they are starting to fall out of favour and if your trainer did something wrong Like Pat and Linda Parelli you would find yourself out of work. :( I have also heard rumbalings about Monty Roberts but i think its just this whole NH marketing hype people are getting fed up with it. Just be a good alround horse trainer that doesn't beat her horses and gets results by being kind. Thats the way forward. :)
Your holiday sounds fab and bless little Shauna she sounds so cute. But I agree you'll be safe for a while untill she starts nagging you and wants to ride your horses. :D I went away recently Me, my OH, Mum, Dad, my two brothers and our two dogs. We went on a canal boat for 2 weeks. That was fun but no horseriding sadly :(
I love ireland but have never been there, one day i will. Similarly if you are ever in the New forest give me a shout you could meet the horrid one :p :D Hopefuly when he's not quite so horrid anymore.
Take care.

You'll just have to come over and meet me. Ye can stay with me, plenty of room, I'm not much into housework though, so while it's clean, it's never tidy!! Stables are though!! The Horrid one sounds so intriguing, would def love to meet him. Whats the nearest airport? My sense of direction is horrible!!!

Going to have a little chat with myself tomorrow, and see where I want to go, instructor wise. Think I may need some sort of qualification though!! Aghhh!!!!!!1

I teach abit freelance and i'm not qualified :o I tell everyone that before i start teaching though but as most of it is through word of mouth they don't mind they know i'm expereanced and thats what realy matters.

Bornmouth is the closest airport to me.
One of the houses i clean in is never tidy. The woman is always imbarrest but i tell her her house is just lived in it's not untidy :p :D :D
