Friend is looking for a specific horse (one you would probably normally find via word of mouth ;) )

Has anyone placed a wanted ad and found their horse through it?
Has anyone used Uptown Eventing - slightly worried they won't have the budget most horses they deal with will require ;)
Has anyone phoned a Pro up directly and asked if they have a horse on their yard that would fit the bill (even if its not been advertised)?

btw this is not an ad and i am not looking for people to send me details of horses - answering one/ all the above questions is more than enough :)

a couple of years ago when i was looking for a youngster i spoke to uptown eventing and they said that they could arrange for me to go to ireland whatever my budget- so might be worth contacting them and telling them what budget is- they can always come backand say no they can't do anything for that money...

Have been looking recently and looked in all the usual places and also rang both Uptown Eventing and Sophie Martindale but seems I didn't really have the budget for either of them as they each only suggested one horse and when I didn't like them I never heard from either of them again. Placed wanted ad on Horsequest and had several replies - including the usual "timewasters" who want to sell you their wonderful 15 year old BE100 schoolmaster even though you've advertised for a younger horse with essential experience at a higher level, BUT also got 3 potentially good replies - including one from Verdina Sport Horses who initially suggested one horse for me (which I have just bought), but also found three others equally suitable and within my budget to look at. I would definitely give them a call - google to find their website.

Hi , i have used horsequest wanted advert twice for finding event horses, apart from a few usual timewasters, i havealso found two very good horses that were not advertised elsewhere. In addition the most recent event horse came from an agent in ireland & he is also great. (if you want any further details, please pm me

We got Minnie and Barry through ad's in H&H and Horsequest :) Generally, i feel if you place a wanted, you get a more specific reply, and people only tend to reply if they feel they've got the right horse for you - apart from one man who kept ringing again and again saying he'd got the right horse and he didn't realise he kept ringing. Poor chap,

It is always worth ringing a pro - they may have suggestions even if they haven't got what you want. If you use any agent be sure you know the value of the horses you look at. When you give someone your budget they know your spending power. Be sure the horse is of that value obviously allowing for their commission.
