This has just gone up on the front page of horsehero.com:

The unpublished Bechtolsheimer letter to Horse & Hound. In her most recent blog, Laura Bechtolsheimer says, "There was a lot of chit chat at the National Championships today with various parties regarding the fact that Horse & Hound decided to ignore our letter straightening out the facts about Pammy Hutton's Comment in the magazine. I am bitterly disappointing really and I have to say I'm astounded that the pre-eminent equestrian magazine printed such a factually incorrect piece and wasn't prepared to give the other side a chance to reply or even state the facts of the matter. So here is the letter from my father that they wouldn't print."

I really enjoyed that- very well worded and quite amusing.

What a shame H&H have chosen to ignore it, it doesnt reflect well on the magazine

Very interesting, I didn't know most of that. Great shame that H&H didn't publish it.

Oooh, reading further down the page, looks as if she's going to be doing some eventing, excellent.
Can't wait till she does a great test and gets a mark of about 45!!!

Dear forum users

At no time did H&H "refused to publish" Dr B's letter, as has been inaccurately reported. Please see H&H's Acting Editor's clarification below.

Response from H&H Acting Editor Jaki Bell

I want to reassure all H&H forum users that Dr Bechtolsheimer’s letter was not received in the offices of Horse & Hound last week.

Our Dressage Editor spoke with Dr Bechtolsheimer this morning, he has resent the letter to us and we will be publishing it next week – so you have all had a preview! I have also spoken with Dr Bechtolsheimer this morning to clarify that there was no question of our “ignoring” his letter.

Jaki Bell, H&H Acting Editor

here you go:
"Carl Hester on a beach donkey, with no disrespect to that donkey, could have got 68% In fact, Lecantos' weakest international score averages at about that. So why on earth were they left at home?"
"Who on earth chose a running order that put Laura under far too much pressure? I would have run her first, then Emma Hindle, followed by Carl who rises to pressure. Or, as it was, why did they not run Emma, who has far more championship experience, last and Laura earlier?"
"Jane Gregory might have been a reserve, although I would have preferred Maria Eilberg. Sorry. Jane, but this columnist did not think that your horse had sufficient 'Olympic factor', however well you rode him."
"Yes, this jury of one is very much out on the effectiveness of our team selection. Assuming that new chief selector Nick Burton was making the decisions, I have to question his tactics."
"We should be aiming for actual medals rather than reaching that fuzzy but much-talked about 'medal zone'. We need a system in place to pu the top riders - and I mean riders who can really ride - on to top horses."

Those are the most relevant bits, I think.

I have to say I thought it was jumping the gun a bit to say H&H were "refusing" to publish.

It's a weekly mag with a small letters page! Give them chance Dr and Miss B!

Having now read the artical, I can see exactly what PH was saying and cant help but agree with her.
After this weekends results at the Nationals, maybe they did get it wrong with Jane and Marie - however, hindsight is a wonderful thing!!
