Hi,

Can someone give me a rough idea of cost for this? My vet has recommended it as a potential treatment for a horse who I have been suffering behavioural issues with. Also can anyone give me opinions on whether this is a worthwhile treatment?

Thank you :D

Hi

I have used a chiro who had one of these machines and basically I paid the cost of a session with her which was about £50-70 each time (she is one of the more expensive ones tho!), it apparently gets deep into the muscle and helps soreness. Don't quote me on this but I think the idea is that it increases blood flow to the area which promotes healing in the muscles and seems to work, I think it is a bit like ultrasound healing. If your vet has recommended this it sounds as tho he feels your horse has some muscular pain so get a good recommendation for a chiro/physio to have a look.

I know I will get shot down in flames for this but I have found the use of chiro's/body massagers work wonders on my horse and it definitely helped him cope with being reintroduced to work after his back operation, he is regularly checked 2 or 3 times a year as I find if gets rid of all the little aches and pains early before they evolve into a bigger problem..

My vet lent me the surgery's H Wave machine for an old horse about 4 years ago. I tried it on myself (as you do...!) and it felt very much like what a Slendertone does to a human. Remember Slendertone's - they are the belt things that you put round your tummy and they send electric impulses through to tone you up.

I was told to use it once a day on his back.

To be honest, I didn't see much improvement but then he did have quite a few problems having slightly fallen apart after having a long time off due to a tendon injury. I have no idea about cost having been lent it. I do know though that you can use hair gel to stick the pads on so they stay put!!

Various racing people also used the machine and swore by it.

Sorry not to have been more help.
