nice pleasent day, so off i went for a hack. had a couple of canters in a big field, and then decided to hack on to the lake 3 miles away by road
so off we went.
arrived at lake and went for a walk into the water up to his chest height, and he was very happy! then the swans came round the corner and the ducks took flight - as did merlin!! he was terrified!! he spun round catching me unaware but i stayed on, and he took off into a tree, narrowy missing his head bashing off it but he got me instead! so i now have a giant bruise on my arm where i wacked it off it. then whilst i was still gathering up my reins he started to buck and leap about - not so good!! eventually get him together and he is so tense and frightned that he is like a ball of energy - he couldnt go forwards or backwards which was very dangerous as if we went forward he bucked and if we went back he reared, so had to try and turn circles. got him back in the water eventually, and then tried to walk back but was then met with the same problem, walk and he was going to try to buck me off. so we trotted the 4 miles home - up and down hills - and i hate trotting on the roads but i had no choice- we had to stop once to let a horrible man past on his tractor and he reared very vertically!! so we trotted the rest of the way. when we got home i let him loose in the arena to try and relax him, which seemed to work. then brought him in and checked for cuts (had cut himself on an older cut) and hosed him down, and checked his head for any swelling and found that he was so terrified that he had bit his lip/bashed it against the tree! (any idea how to deal with a cut on the inside of the lip?)
poor boy was still a little tense, so bandaged his legs to hopefully reduce the risk of any consequences of trotting 4 miles. and put purple spray on his cut.
is there anything else i can do?
ahh the hack from hell!!
