Has anybody used a hackamore without the curb chain ?? my horse goes really well in her's, but the gel pad on the curb chain has rubbed her chin so I need to take the curb chain off for now. Thank you.

Yes. But I'm not an expert and didn't know it was supposed to have one, that was just how that horse was ridden. Mind you there are different types of hackamore...

Don't tell anyone I said this but perhaps a good moment to pop into the school/other safeish area and just give it a go?

Like the thread above, when I first got it I didn't realise it COULD have a curb chain! I was at the Red Dragon Ride at Builth Wells, to my utter shame bruised my mare's mouth during a very fast and uncomfortable 25-miler, swore that I would never ride her in a bit again, so a very experienced hackamore-using friend marched me off to the Plas Equestrian stand and she and they decided what I needed. I rode my previously very fretful, head-throwing mare in it from then on for years and she was a different creature - and the brakes worked. Go for it!
