Iv been currently experimenting with bits for my horse for jumping in, hes always been a strong boy jumping but i would find he would fight the bit and go against it i could never jump in a snaffle tho as he was to strong but at the same time he didnt like really strong bits, so i decided to try an english hackamore and i was very pleased how he went in it he was vey relaxed really easy to turn he just seems to prefer it!. Here is a video of us last night only the 2nd time in the hackamore its only a quick vid on the flat i did jump in it aswell but my dad did not video that bit, so a bit more jump schooling in it at home then i am going to hire some places out to make sure i will deffo have control before i go to a show. You've said before that he is sensitive in the mouth, can I ask why you are using draw reins on him for flatwork? The use of the draw reins is likely to make him worse.
 
i dont use draw reins on him all the time just everynow and again i didnt have them on then. Im trained by an grand prix dressage rider so they are always used correctly and they are not there to hold his head down as he can carry himself, if you can see i dont have them on tightly
 
yes i use them every now and again training, if used correctly i dont see why people have a problem using them i dont ride with them tight and they are slacked off , as i said i train with a grand prix dressage rider she doesnt see a problem using them :)

I'm not saying he isn't loved and looked after.

There have been several posts about different bits for this horse so I thought that maybe highlighting the draw reins on sensitive horses point may be worthwhile.
 
yes my bits for jumping not flat, i use a snaffle for my flat work, jumping he is more difficult to bit only bit he likes for jumping is the mullen mouth pelham even that is to thick for his mouth he doesnt like waterfords or anything like that, for jumping hes better in a hackamore, Dual reins have no effect in my jumping what so ever like i said i only use them now and again in my flat work
 
my horse means so much to me and i love him dearly he is my horse of a lifetime since i have moved yards and training with a grand prix dressage rider and an international eventer i have come on in leaps and bounds even my position wise how i carry my hands i am not using the draw reins to get his head in , hes alot straighter hes working so much better before he would tilt his head on one rein and now he doesnt do it i can flex him well on both reins now hes also working through his body much better everything is going in the right direction. this is a video i made few months ago the videos on here are training at my old yard i was at and theres one at a competition http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXZm1PLPFXU&feature=related
