I have just started riding my stallion in a hackamore and he is fantastic in it, I just wondered as I have never had a horse in one before what disciplines are you allowed to use one in?

And as he is a stallion would this be a problem as some shows have a rule that stallions have to have either a chain or a bit in at all times?

BSJA are one of the ones that have a rule stallions are to have a chain or a bit at all times. he is infact an arab and so may not become affliated just yet (im working on that)

The Nathe tandem bit sound quiet severe, he has the oftest mouth in the world, hense the hackamore.

Yes, but if you do need to have a bit, it may be one of your only options, unless you can fit a snaffle under the hackamore and have two reins, just not using the snaffle rein? A bit is really only as severe as the hands at the end of the reins.

I understand that but the less complicated the better. I think myler do one that is combined, to be honest I have not found a bit that he is 100% happy in yet so many factors contribute to my reasoning:

he was a race horse for many years (not that you would know it now)
he is a stallion (know that is no reason but they are known to be sensitive)
he has a mouth like cotton, not only am I keen not to ruin that I am also very keen to keep him settled

my aim is to get him going on top form and then try different bits so I know if he doesn’t go well then it is down to the bit and not in experience.

Rob whittaker has finbarr in a hackamore for brakes and a happy mouth snaffle for extra steering maybe if it was a problem if u had that with two reins you could keep them happy then

Nathe tandem bit is very soft - the mouth peice is a special material, much softer than a happy mouth and very flexible. It's designed for the sensitive mouth

The hackamore action comes into play quickly, however the shanks are probably shorter than the ones you are using (unless you are using a dr cook, equibridle, bosal or sidepull - just saying 'hackamore' isn't tres helpful!)
