Personally I love it. I took Bodey out tonight, just me and him, through the woods, jumped a log, had a good old canter and just couldn’t stop smiling. Just feels like the ultimate freedom.

I do enjoy hacking in company too though (that's for _Gina_), lol. :D

So what about you?

I hacked one of my ponies out alone yesterday and I loved the feeling that it was just us two and that we could go at our own pace and enjoy the sunshine on our faces :) I like hacking in company too but on a sunny day nothing beats hacking alone in my opinion.

I love it. Used to hack alone for hours. Unfortunately I do have a tendency to get lost/scared after a while...

Love it - company is always nice of course, but just ambling along with your buddy is also a pretty good way to spend an afternoon **misses horses even more...**:)

I dont really have a choice lol! Because I smell and I am Billy no mates. Plus keep them at home with just "me myself I". But I do like being on my own. Cant be doing with all the chatting to each other. If I want to chat i either chat to my horse or chat to myself. At least "we" agree with whatever I have to say!:D

I like it, but Milly doesnt!! She is not too bad but can be on her toes and a bit joggy on her own. She needs to get used to it though as no one else at my yard has a rideable horse now (except 1 pony who is so little his legs can't keep up!) and i have no hacking buddy! Booooooooo!

I love both! The lady I share the field with only rides at weekends, so we go ambling along for hours having a good old natter, usually stopping off at the pub along the way. During the week it's just me and Dibbs, so it's 'serious' fittening work which includes a lot of galloping round the countryside and jumping anything and everything :D

I both love it and hate it.

I love it because it is a fantastic feeling that you get when its just you are your horse, also i can go at my own pace no other horses/people to wind us up.
Hate it because all my hacking is quite near roads and i worry if i come off he might run off onto the roads or i might be seriously injured and nobody would find me

Love. Go at your own pace and wherever the wind blows you. Had a lovely amble this evening just me and the Doodlebug, heaven...

Love it.

A bit of peace and quiet, no OH yacking away. H and I can stooge along or tear ar$e about as suits our mood with no worries.

I like both! Went for a terrific hack with a friend today, with a picnic afterwards, and it was fab. The pony likes company, and it's nice not to have to deal with napping. But hacking alone can be great too, just to have a quiet wander, or to go in a field to address "wide-open-field!!" phobia!

I love it, just me and my favourite boy all alone in what feels like the middle of no-where. However, I do trust him A LOT not to be a silly boy and he is a very special pony :)

I don't mind hacking out with others, but so many other women of my age, well, I wonder why they have horses they ride at all, they barely get out of walk most of the time on the rare occasions they actually ride.

love it!! i can go as fast as i want without worrying other peoples horses are unfit/bombing off with their rider haha
and i can be out as long as i want or just go for a nice wander :)

Lol that can be me and my friends, too busy chatting and catching up on the gossip to get out of walk - horses usually wake us up a bit by spooking if we are not concentrating :D

I love both, early summer morning hacks on my old boy are just pure bliss.

I loved hacking alone when I shared horses in the past.

It's one of the main reasons I want to share again - having just ridden a few times recently, on organised RS hacks, I do miss the freedom of doing what I want when I want and instead having to follow instructions as to when to trot and canter.

Plus I loved the bond I got from hacking with my old boys.

I LOVE hacking by myself. It's a lovely feeling on a nice day, just you and your horse :)
I don't hack out much with other people, but this year on my yard the 2 girls my age now have rideable horses!

I don't mind either way, somtimes it'd nice to be out alone if it's a nice day. However, if I am on my pony (who's 24 and I've had 16 years) and he's not been out for a while then a hack alone can be hard work because everything is scary and he likes tofling himself about - usually when a car is coming - it can make for a bit of a stressful time on the road!!! lol

I think alot depends on my moodm sometimes it's nice to have time to yourself, other times it's nice to ride and chat (to a human!)

Not so much on the young horse because he can be an arse, but his mum, she and I used to hack for hours into the wild west Wales hills. He doesn't know what he's missing.

I enjoy going out alone, just from a safety aspect I like to go in company, I always worry that if something happens and I am alone there is no one there to help or get help. :o

Loved hacking alone with Winston it was like riding a forward going cob :D he fell asleep in company.

As for Toffee she just ends up jogging and spooking. And I always end up talking to her to keep her calm. One day I was talking to her about something I was gonna say in a presentation at uni, gave me practice and kept her sane. I was well into conversation and a bloke came out of the hedgerow and asked me why my horse needed to be told about alcohol and pregnant women... he had been the other side of the hedge across the whole bridleway :( Plus you cant stop and pee on your own you need a mate on watch out.

Love it :D

But probably because my horse is fantastic to hack, and is the only one on the yard that is safe enough to hack alone :p
Hence why we are always in demand to go hacking with others, benifits of having a non spooky horse who loves to hack, and dosent kick!

I love the freedom, and to be alone with me horse :D

I've always ridden alone since I trotted out with my little grey pony before school!

Mine had some confidence issues hacking alone to start with, but we've both sorted out our issues and he's fine now.

There's something wild and almost primeval about being alone in deserted places with the strength of a horse, just the two of you, plus the dogs. There's nothing else quite like it really. Just you and the horse, and no other human being..... bliss!

Emm, sorry to be daft, can't remember who said it, but someone worries about getting lost out hacking?! Just trust your horse, no need to worry, they'll always know the way back to their feed-bowl, just like a dog! When I was a kid and riding out alone, my parents never used to worry I'd get lost coz they said the pony will always find his way back, and they do, never fear.
