Hacking alone- Love it or Hate it?

with my first pony, i cudnt hack alone. she'd throw a tantrum before even leaving the farm. it became v limiting as i'm at a small place and at that time, there was only one other person who rode. with Ben, i enjoy both, to be honest, i prefer to be with friends as its much more fun and now there are 5 of us who ride, there is always someone who wants to join up for a hack anyway.

added to that, i feel much more confident in company.

Love to go hacking out alone, just having some nice peace and quiet, being able to go where I want and when :) However I don't enjoy it on a horse which isnt good at hacking alone as I don't feel as safe on my own.

Love it - quality time with my horse.

I do miss my old yard though where I had lots of friends to hack out with if I chose. Now I don't often have people to hack with and it is nice to have the choice.

One day I was talking to her about something I was gonna say in a presentation at uni, gave me practice and kept her sane. I was well into conversation and a bloke came out of the hedgerow and asked me why my horse needed to be told about alcohol and pregnant women... he had been the other side of the hedge across the whole bridleway :( Plus you cant stop and pee on your own you need a mate on watch out.

You think that's bad, I sometimes get caught by dog walkers, singing Queen songs (or whatever is in my head at the time, normally something rubbish) to my horse...VERY BADLY :(

I like it but have to have my ipod in one ear as listening to my own thoughts sometimes is destroying maybe cause i criticise myself to much and taz is much less of a nappy git in company making the hack much better, but hacking alone has its advantages as me and taz get to spend one on one time together

I love it, which is just as well as Jazz walks sooooo quickly that very little else can keep up with him. If I go out in a group and one can't keep up, they start jogging, which then starts another off and the whole thing snowballs. If I hold Jazz up then he gets irritated, and I feel that his natural stride is seriously hampered, so it's easier and more fun to go out alone!
