Hacking Alone

Depends what horse i'm on and the weather conditions!

If i'm on a safe horse i prefer hacking alone as i can concentrate on riding them properly, but my current main horse is much calmer in company and on a calm/still day, so i avoid riding her alone when it's windy! But i do like to get her out alone and in company so she's used to both :D

I never used to hack out on my own because my previous horse wouldn't hack out on his own. In the 5 years I have owned my current horse, I have really enjoyed hacking out solo. I was a little nervous the first few times but now we love a hack out just the two of us although we do enjoy going in company also.

I hack alone most of the time. I share a horse as his owner doesn't have time to ride after work so usually ride on my own either riding one of the two horses on their own or going out ride and lead.

I always have my phone on me, someone always knows I've gone out hacking and the area we hack in isn't huge so shouldn't be too hard to find me, the horses would probably head home if anything happened. We have a fair amount of quiet lanes, bridleways and fields to hack in, we're very lucky in our area.

I like hacking with other people sometimes, it's nice to have someone to chat to, but I do prefer hacking alone as I can go where I like and do what I want. And also the horse behaves better alone, he jogs constantly when out in company and it drives me insane.

Mac and I mostly hack out alone, sometimes with his fieldmate. It was hard work at first as he would plant himself and shout! But with time to get to know each other and some in hand walks out, he's much much better!

I've hacked alone from the age of about 11 or 12, and I love the freedom of it - you and your mighty steed can go and explore that path that you always fancied a nosey up, can stop and buy him a half at the pub, can come home early if its not working etc etc - Its just fab, and great bonding time :D

I always find my hacks alone are drama free ( my pony is abit of a sheep and will over react with a naughty horse). Its relaxing to go out and have a break i find aswell. If your horse is good in traffic etc. just go for it bring your phone with you and tell people your going and you shall be fine :)

I have the same problem with my gelding, he completely reacts to other horses and i find that rather than concentrating on what he is doing i am watching the other horses. If we are out in company and have a canter he bucks, yet on our own he is great, no bucking, if the other horse is really messing about of does a massive spook, my horse bucks 'big',

If we are out in company and there is something scary, he won't go, yet on his own he listens to me and we go past with no problems.

I therefore, tend to go out on my own, makes a more stress free ride, although i do like company.
