Hacking Alone

I'm 16 and hack out alone on my share horse, who I've just taught to hack out by himself (he was extremely nappy before and wouldn't go out without company). There's nothing better than an evening hack, just me and him, deciding when we want to canter, gallop, do a bit of schooling etc. I absolutely love it, although I think the other liveries think I'm a bit of a loner going out by myself haha. My mum is fine with it, apart from once when we were up on the common and saw a crazy man with an axe in his hand coming straight for us, which is when she asked me not to go up there alone for a while! I would definitely get that app that another poster was talking about and also those Locatas things- hopefully they will persuade her that you will be pretty safe. Is she worried about you falling off or dodgy people?

don't think she is worried about dodgy people ahah, well she could be, but I think her worries are 1) idiot drivers on the road- and yes fair enough there are some ***** about- but imo she lets me go out on a bike alone, lets me walk along the road alone, i know a horse is more dangerous etc etc but she has seen the horse with idiots passing at god knoww what speed. and 2) if horse took off (which i very much doubt will ever happen!!! most laid back, lazy, kick along horse ever- and I wouldn't canter for the first few months anyway)!! and either I got hurt or horse ran off.

If you are going to hack out alone get a dog tag for your bridle and saddle with your contact details on one side and your vets details on the other side so if you are ever separated they know who the horse belongs to.
I have hacked alone for 35 years in Central London, Mid Wales and Hertfordshire and have thoroughly enjoyed myself going on up to 8 hour hacks!
