Hi All :)

I'm looking at a new yard for my horses and have seen a lovely place off the A249 near Bredgar. I know there is toll rides close by but is there anyone on her that knows what the hacking is like around there.

Thank u :)

I used to live in the next village, Bicknor until I moved to the midlands last July. Keep my horse on Detling Hill behind the show ground. The toll rides around there are lovely, the woods especially. Have fun exploring.

Hi Kylie, Where abouts is the yard? I keep my horse in Stockbury and the hacking is lovely Toll rides, woods, orchards, quiet lanes, even a pub with stalls to tie up the horses whilst you have a drink :).

What pub is that chestnut , I'm in hartlip and me and horsey are looking at doing some pub crawls ,

Hi Ischa, Its the Hook and Hatchet in Hucking if you box over they allow you to park in their car park (phone ahead first) then you can go off from there. If you are on Facebook- search for Happy Hackers riding club- they do regular meet up's at the pub and have a nice ride around the area then back to the pub fro lunch :).

I used to be in Yelstead, fantastic hacking in that area, we used to go as far as Detling showground and also out to Bredhurst woods etc. I'm down in Sussex now with south downs etc but still miss the hacking over that way. You're so lucky! :) x

Hi JoBo and Chestnut Mare :D

Are they TROT toll rides you're talking about? or are there some others? I've only found a short TROT route close to the Hook and Hatchet, the rest were bridlepaths.

Thx :)

Hi Holly :) Well there is the Hucking Toll ride its quite a long ride by the hook and hatchet, cross over the road by the church onto the bridleway then you have the second half of the toll which comes out by John Bests yard.....

There is also the Borden toll ride which is nice.

Other than that there are plenty of by ways and paths that you can get to the orchards and woods :)

Also plenty of bridleways down by Coldblow Farm one goes through the woods behind the indian restaurant on the A249 (although when me and Becky went we came across a paint ball site in the woods) might want to check thats not on if you go that way.

Thx CM :)

They didn't have a map of the Hucking Trot Route, which is probably why I only found a little bit of it :/ Sounds like I'll have to twist your arm to show me round some time ;)

I love the Borden Route, it has sooo many places for a nice steady canter (or gallop).

Getting mixed up with the paint ballers sounds 'interesting' :/ You're right, best avoided!

Definately up for that :) not done it for a couple of years need to rejoin.

Riding must have really improved up there I kept my horse at Stanhope Farm for about 3 years (2001- 2004) just up the road from the Hook and Hatchet and John Best's yard and I wouldn't have described the hacking as particularly good back then.

It was mostly road workalbeit mostly fairly quiet if you actually want to do a longish circular route. Hardly anywhere to have a canter. If you rode more over towards East of Hollingbourne though there were more bridleways and some good riding. Lots of Byways with vehicles on them or footpaths rather than bridleways. Nice that you have more Toll routes now.

Lots of good memories - the Hook was our local
