As many of you know confidence is not my middle name, and since a scarey fall outhacking 18mths ago I have always found hacking quite a challenge and cantering on a hack was done under duress for George's benefit

Well I think I'm getting better, round us the ground is rock hard at the moment and there is nowhere soft to canter, and when I got back from my hack today (which was lovely

) I felt a little disappointed that I couldn't canter!

Hope this is a sign that my confidence is getting stronger

Yay!!!

I lost my confidence in riding a few years ago but was really helped by using the principles of NLP. I visualised everything in advance in a positive way. Sounds like you are on the way to doing the same thing. You were dissappointed because you hadn't cantered and that's because you expected it to be a positive experience.

Yay, that's brilliant!! I had a canter on my hack for the first time in 6 years on Saturday and loved it, looks like both our confidence is improving :-) x

That is brilliant! Hacking is brilliant, and part of the fun is that you can't control the world. I adore my hacking, always have, and I still get butterflies tacking up. Well done! We had rain here today too (loads of it) so most likely the ground will be softened for you soon enough

Really happy for you, I have confidence issues too and also get the butterflies when tacking up. But once I've done something on that ride out of my comfort zone I get such a buzz it puts me on a high for the rest of the day!

I know exactly how you feel - the longer I dont ride, the harder it is to get my confidence back when I do scramble on again.

I have had my new ponio for a few weeks now, and it is driving me mad that I cant ride him ( physio has banned me while I am having treatment! ) and I know that when I finally can ride him, I am going to be such a bag of nerves!

Hope the ground softens soon and you can have a lovely steady canter.
