Hi.

Does anyone do this?? Where can you park your horse box and are the routes and where you're allowed clearly marked?? i have a bad sense of direction and fear of being lost!!

thanks

I do! It is wonderful, I just can't imagine that there could be better hacking anywhere!

I livery v near there so fortunatly don't need to worry about parking. There used to be lots of nice wide verges at the Sapperton side but they have gone and blocked them off now. You could always call The Bell at Sapperton and see if they would mind you using there car part at certain times. Also worth a drive around there to find a wide bit of verge. At one of the town entrances near the caravan park (it is private, no public right of way) there is space to park. Worth a call to the estate office perhaps (I guess they would be the most suitable person to speak to?) to see if they would let you park down there or suggest other suitable places. http://www.cirencesterpark.co.uk/index.php?mpl=17

The park is open 8am - 5pm each day (unless v occationally shut for them to do maintenence). It is massive so it is easy to get lost. There are lovely wide rides (that all lead up to 10 rides) so perhaps best to stick to these at first until you get used to the place!

You can ride pretty much everywhere, there are a v few private places and they are marked as such, obviously you can't ride on the polo pitches, and you also can't ride on the cut grass at the side of broad ride (it is the ride that brings you down the hill onto Ceicly hill and into town).

Most of the park isn't open to dogs or cyclists so bear this in mind if you are after bringing company.

It is fab! Enjoy your hack!

I've been there loads of times to do the yearly endurance ride. Lovely place, great riding, make sure your horse is happy walking over styles though. Is a wonderful place through the woods at the south end where there is a patch of wild garlic growing, the smell in the summer is amazing.

thanks for your responses!
that's really useful. will try and locate some parking. not sure how my horse feels about stiles, but won't know until i try. I'm only planning on bringing some equine company! :)

Think the stiles must depend on where you hack. I hack from the town side and have done for nearly a year now and have never come across somewhere with a stile! If it is fenced off and there isn't a track going through then we assume we aren't meant to be there and go and explore somewhere else instead. The park is so massive you certainly won't be lacking places to go!

Did it years ago and we parked I think round by the Bathurst Sawmills....that was though 20 years ago plus.

We still park up by the Sawmills - that way you just have to cross the main road and go in through a hunt gate. Fantastic riding, no navigation as such but fairly easy - it's arranged around two stars and the rides go off from the points and are then interlinked.

Have fun :)

:D Thanks again for all your help! Had a fabulous ride on Saturday, really got the cobwebs out! Parked successfully by sawmills and in the hour and half we were in the park, saw only 1 lone jogger. awesome!
