Does anyone happen to know what the rights of way situation is like for horses in France? In the UK you can look at an OS map and get a very good idea of available bridleways. Where are you allow to ride in France and how do you find out if a property has good access to hacking?

Thanks!

I thought they had bridleways out there too??

ets : thats sounds ridiculous!! I mean, are they not marked on a map too?? A friend of mine moved out there and managed to find all the local ones easily....I assumed she used a map!

Hi
Would suggest you contact the Mairie, Tourist office, and the local Poney Club/Ferme Equestre, for available routes. Better still when you have found a property, go riding with the local Club, thats how I learnt about my immediate area. There should be maps available for most areas, I have one here for the Dordogne produced by the FFE, titled....Tourisme Equestre, with stop off points for horsey accomodation if you are doing a longer distance. You will be welcomed by all, as we have been, and hacking is truely wonderful. There are the odd minus points, like keep out of the woods on a Sunday, la Chasse, but the best recommendation is for you to take a look at Equine On Line, France. Lots of nice people living in all parts of France, who could advise you.Oh, and by the way, I have taken up Endurance, if you cant beat them, join em, as they say!!!Bon chance

Thank you all very much, that is very helpful (BTW I was not suggesting the French have no maps! Just wondering how to access them!).

off post
Booboos was the rabbit's pet name, then got transferred to the horses, then I started calling the OH Booboos, so finally I nicked it for myself!
